Out the other end of Holy Crap Snowstorm safely, now that there are patches of blue sky and sun visible. We got majorly dumped on (3' drifts, maybe 18" of actual accumulation), but the power remains on and other than dealing with an occasionally wall-climbing husband and freaked-out cats, we're fine. Watching the fascinating ballet of plows, tractors and shovels happening in our driveway in the storm's aftermath and being vaguely annoyed at myself for getting exactly nothing done since getting sent home from work yesterday other than farting about on the internet. Well no, not quite true, I spent much of yesterday writing out a php program that generates substitution ciphers based on an input text, but while fun and may be used in some crafty project at some point down the line, not exactly useful/productive. (Though does say a lot about my usual methods of self-entertainment. My fun is not your fun.) Ah well, Saturday is still young... though having been up since 8:30 it feels weirdly like late-afternoon. By the way, that wind this morning. Whoo boy. That's what woke me up.

Anyway. Some memeishness before I excuse myself from the interbutts and do something real:

My brains

Jan. 22nd, 2013 10:18 pm
anagramofbrat: (game face)
The realities of modern life: how is it I could essentially sit on my ass all day in front of a terminal and yet come home drop dead exhausted at the end of the day? Some vague ancestral spectre in my head is confused as to how I can be tired after essentially doing nothing all day. Little does it know of computer witchery and its demands upon the psyche.

In light of some conversational points touched on by [livejournal.com profile] grinninfoole, on another level of my brain I spent the day poking some old wounds to test if they, in fact, still hurt or whether I was holding on to a memory of pain rather than actually experiencing it, and if the hurt was still there, why. Ended up spending my lunch hour scarfing the remains of the chicken and root veggie bake I made last night and jotting down a list. I would say that 90% of things poked still legit hurt, but it was more of a twinge or a sore, rather than an OW and in a lot of cases, it pointed to some issues within my own brain wiring that need consideration and work still. Others don't hurt anymore, but I can't forgive their infliction. Overall it was a decent exercise: clarified some things in my head and kept my brain from entirely melting today. There may be a filtered post about it at some point, or it may be one for the Silence*, or I may just put everything back away until the need for omphaloskepsis rises again. Unsure as yet.

Speaking of pointless omphaloskepsis, MORE ULTIMATE DESTINY APOCALYPSE INANE QUESTIONS!

I had a pleasant, if frustratingly unproductive day off - my ambition was the get the house cleaned, but all I managed was picking up our room, the laundry, running through two loads in the dishwasher, returning all the deposit bottles and making a rather delicious dinner for [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I. I also went to lunch with [livejournal.com profile] grinninfoole, which is always pleasant; I enjoy our "so... where are you on that whole road to self-improvement?" checkpoints over food.

Okay when you write it out today wasn't so much the Day of Ignoble Sloth, but it certainly felt like it. And I'm kinda mad I missed ALL the inauguration coverage, but that's what The Internet and youtube are for.

Back to the insurance salt mines tomorrow, whee.

All right, I'm awake, less tipsy and have a yawning empty void of a Sunday, lets at least finish the first 200 questions. Also HI NEW FIEND. Not a typo.

Whew! Well that's quite enough of that for a bit. I have stuff to do and I've wasted HOURS on this already hahaha.

... But I'm only doing 200 as I got them from [livejournal.com profile] nounsandverbs and he got them from a friends-only friend so I gue2s we're both doing this in 200 question chunks.

Wheee questions 1-64, because I am a wuss, I got lazy and I wanna go to bed. )
anagramofbrat: (sail away with me)
I feel a little silly doing this because there's an entire month left in 2012, but it's already making the rounds so nyeh.

end of year meme )

Also regarding today:

We met eight years ago, when your oldest was still discovering her toes. Four years later, when both of our lives were rapidly unravelling, we somehow decided weathering those particular storms together was a better idea than dealing with them separately. This year we threw a party and got rings and stuff. 32 years ago, though, you were born, making all this possible.

My icon says "sail away with me." These days I'm confused as to whether the ninja sailed away with the pirate, or the pirate is chasing the ninja across the rooftops of Tortuga swearing and brandishing an empty rum bottle in a fit of pique. Either way, every year has been an adventure, and I don't think I ever want to get off this ride.

Happy birthday, my love, my darling, my [livejournal.com profile] cell23.

Day Two.

Jun. 22nd, 2012 12:06 pm

Day One: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.
Day Two: Nine things about yourself.
Day Three: Eight ways to win your heart.
Day Four: Seven things that cross your mind a lot.
Day Five: Six things you wish you’d never done.
Day Six: Five people who mean a lot (in no order whatsoever)
Day Seven: Four turn-offs.
Day Eight: Three turn-ons.
Day Nine: Two images that describe your life right now, and why.
Day Ten: One confession

Day Two: Nine things about yourself.

  1. I will be 34 years old this year. I routinely get mistaken for < 20. If you've ever seen pictures of my family, you know why. (Vampirism, clearly.)

  2. I have wanted to be a writer since I was a kid, and used to spend an inordinate amount of time lost in my own worlds in high school. Adulthood proved distracting. Only just now getting back into it with any degree of regularity with the goal of actually finishing something novel-esque.

  3. I was once described as having a maniacal lack of discretion. This is 100% true. I have no shame or self-consciousness about my body, lifestyle, or sexuality, and am pretty much completely out of any and all closets that could possibly apply to me.

  4. I've been computer literate/had my own computer from a very young age. While this is increasingly unremarkable in this day and age, consider #1, and what was around for personal computing in the mid-eighties.

  5. I have an ongoing list of Interesting and Weird Medical Factoids. Weird blood disorder? Check. Immune system that likes to snack on my intestines when bored? Check. Genetic predisposition towards cone-shaped corneas? Check. Multiple times having chicken pox? Check, and 4. Mystical ability to get through high school without a single pimple? Check. Doctors fucking love me, man.

  6. I used to eat books before I learned to read them. My ancient set of World Books back at my parents' have toddler bite marks out of a few pages.

  7. I hate shopping for myself, it is onerous and excruciating. Shopping for/with someone else? SIGN ME UP.

  8. I live in an apartment complex which has an overabundance of a) nerds b) cats c) reasonably close personal friends. I rather love this.

  9. If I had to, I could live quite happily on food obtained from NYC street carts for the remainder of my life. Sabrett and Nathans hot dogs, halal kebobs, gyros, pitas, shaved ices, roasted chick peas... damn it, now I'm homesick AND hungry.

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents,
beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home
decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

a) no surprises here.
b) man, remember when every other entry in your friends page would be one of these? It's quaint seeing one now.

Really truly and honestly? "We Will Rock You," and for none of the reasons you might think. Put on some big puffy noise canceling headphones, find a lossless FLAC recording of it, turn it up to the point of hurting yourself and pay attention, especially starting from the end of the third chorus with the electric guitar starts to fade in. The song is layered in an extremely interesting way, first with the clearly overdubbed sample of the "stomp stomp clap" percussion (ETA: upon listening to it again I noticed something new about this part - the first five measures start with the original single sample and then gradually layers itself until you get the full effect), Freddie Mercury's bare vocals (except for the choruses) singing some frankly depressing as fuck lyrics in that way of his that sticks with you long after the song is over, and Brian May's guitar solo at the end... it's just a tightly put together track, and, as evidenced by its ubiquity in sports events everywhere, a pretty powerful one as well.

Oddly enough I severely disliked "We Are the Champions" until very recently, which was inconvenient as they are usually played as a married pair. I've since gained an appreciation for it, if not a true liking.

It's September and we're going frakking apple picking tomorrow. Fuck it, I'ma start using this icon.

moar icon stuff )

Shaping up to be a very lazy Sunday, seeing as we don't have any big plans or anywhere to go today as opposed to yesterday (Fair! Farmers Market! Shopping!) and tomorrow (Kidzilla's birthday party! AAAA!) [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I stayed up late last night watching the latest Torchwood and Doctor Who (hmm, I'm overdue for a "What's Andee Watching? post... later maybe) while I oven-dried the tomatoes I bought at the farmer's market. I finished those up this morning and I think I overdid them this time around, as some of them taste a little burnt, but they're still good. They also have a bit of a bite to them since I sprinkled pepper on them this time as well. Thinking of looking up a recipe for bread that incorporates them into it - I still have very fond memories of the sun-dried tomato bagels at Brueggers and am still mad they were only available that one summer years ago. But really all that's on tap for today is sticking close to home, making sure the kids don't kill each other, and chilling. I may try to get some work done or my hair yarned up today as well. Also we have some party prep to do later, mostly in the way of baking Kidzilla's cake and wrapping up her presents. Also figuring out what the hell we're going to do with the bajillion apples we're going to come home with tomorrow, considering she's having her party at the orchard for at least the third year running. I say at least because I've only been attending them regularly since she turned five - she very well may have had previous birthdays there as well and I'm kinda too lazy to ask [livejournal.com profile] cell23 about it right now. Oh, that reminds me, I'd better charge up the camera.

By the way, those of you with iThings and an overdeveloped sense of voyeurism or a liking for anonymous confessions? The PostSecret app just dropped and it is addictive as FUCK. Buyer beware, you will do nothing else for an hour after downloading it.

But yeah. The Andee abides. Pretty much it.

5 icon meme

anagramofbrat: (sheep)
I am rather pleased to note the 5 Icon Meme is going around LJ again. It's been years. And I have 100 icons to pimp out for explanation. Muuuhahahaha.

Anyway.

1. Reply to this post and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

me babbling about icons )

In rest of my life news, today has been full of heat, humidity, cranky (mine, [livejournal.com profile] cell23's and chilluns at varying alternating times), but it's also had good stuff too. Like farmers market, wherein I got some more tomatoes to dry tonight and a couple to simply roast with cheese, and a trip to the 3 County Fair, which all of us had varying degrees of fun at, though I think the highlight of my afternoon was riding the Ferris Wheel with Kidzilla, waving to her dad and Lovebug on the ground and thoroughly enjoying the look of delight and slightly scared on her face as we got the best view of the fair at the top. Not going to complain too hard about the maple cotton candy either. I'd have to say maple cotton candy is leaps and bounds better than the regular stuff, though I will eternally be wigged out by how much that shit looks and feels like fiberglass insulation.

Also I had apparently never informed [livejournal.com profile] cell23 about my irrational cow fear. I'm okay with them at a distance, but up close (say, less than six feet) they totally freak me out for some reason. There may have been an incredulous look or three when I refused to go in the dairy barn at the end of the day. *shakes head* City girl, people! if there's livestock running around in Brooklyn something is seriously wrong.

anyway I've just been informed by a short stack that it's dinner time.

Since April 8th, 2003. I was going by [livejournal.com profile] kjpepper back then. Lets see, what have I found noteable in the last 8 years? Besides everything? Seven moves, five breakups, lots of weddings, including my own, lots of pictures of me, dredlocks, several medical emergencies, lots of drama, the death of the two primary mother figures... lol. Pretty much LJ has seen the majority of my post-college life, and since I still need a long format venue for blabbing about my life and brain, I don't see myself abandoning it anytime soon.

...Jesus, it's coming DOWN out there. O_o Can't say I mind as long as I'm indoors, though I did just breifly dash out in it to avalon616's to partake of cake and ice cream for bloodandsmoke's birthday. Good stuff, that. Still, that was before the wind really started howling out there, so I'm glad I'm inside now. pretty much my plan for the rest of the evening is work out this week's List of Doom, play a little YPP and make nefarious plans concerning the insertion of extremely fucking colorful yarn into my hair.
