TIL

From the CDC by way of Wikipedia, regarding rabies (emphasis mine):

"Small rodents such as squirrels, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, chipmunks, rats, and mice and lagomorphs like rabbits and hares are almost never found to be infected with rabies and are not known to transmit rabies to humans."

...orly?

(nope, still not telling... yet. Hee hee hee)

what did you buy a pet hamster?

[identity profile] anagramofbrat.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
haha no. My cat would shit herself with hatred if we did.

I had a hamster named Hersheys when I was a sprog. he was awesome. I once gave him a haircut. :p

did you get bit by a squirrel?

[identity profile] anagramofbrat.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Also no. I think me and squirrels have gotten past our mutual animosity from college wherein they would drop the spiky horse chestnuts on my head and I would vow to destroy their entire species.

[identity profile] anagramofbrat.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. Indeed.

YOU ATE ROADKILL DIDN'T YOU? D:

[identity profile] anagramofbrat.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
By the time I get to any squirrel carcases around here they're usually mashed flat into asphalt pizza.

[identity profile] lemonandgrapes.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure there is one down the road. If the racoons haven't eaten it by now.

[identity profile] lemonandgrapes.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
well played....

[identity profile] horizonchaser.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The squirrels out here are more known for carrying the bubonic plague though.

*gasp!* You came down with your own case of rabies! Who will you be biting first??!

[identity profile] horizonchaser.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll meet you at the airport! :D

[identity profile] subquixote.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You've gotten the role of "Squirrel Girl" in the Broadway adaptation of "Great Lakes Avengers"!

(If Idris Elba can be Heimdall, you can be Squirrel Girl...)

[identity profile] nekosensei.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So I take it that somebody got bit?

(If they did, you probably want to make sure it gets washed out well with alcohol because you can still get nasty infections that way).

[identity profile] anagramofbrat.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No one's gotten bit. Yet.

[identity profile] nekosensei.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yet. So I take it that someone has been feeding and possibly even petting the squirrels?

By the way, squirrels LOVE peanut butter. Some of them will even take things coated with peanut butter out of your hands. FYI.

That reminds me, I've got a family of squirrels building a nest in the big tree outside my house. I should probably put peanut butter on the list...just for kicks. :)

[identity profile] anagramofbrat.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
no one's feed the squirrels either. pretty much all the real life squirrels are good for around here is attracting every complex cat to the nearest window/patio door to watch it and slaver.

Peanut butter, though. Will keep that in mind for codename Sciuridae.
