1 jumbo skein of jewel toned yarn: $6.75. Putting a crapton of said yarn in your hair: 6 hours....

Feeling the most like yourself in three years? PRICELESS.

I have to redo the back a bit, as I realized about midway through that I had to finish the ends differently to accomodate the dreads. But yeah... It's kinda nice to be back. Hopefully this will solve that whole non-dreading root issue too.

and now, holy crap good night.

* i will bake you these if you get the reference, promise.

In my bid to try and leave the house at least once a day and to keep me from stressing about the trip tomorrow, I got the Hatemonger and took off to Manhattan this morning to walk the High Line.

Looks cool, don't it? I took a shitton of pictures. And then I came home and played with them in Photoshop. (A lot of them I put into sepia and black and white just for shits and giggles - on a few I think the lack of color's an improvement.)

First I took a stroll through Chelsea, since there was no easy way to get to the 8th avenue line from my house, due to the B not running on weekends. *shakes fist* oh well, I needed the walk.

Chelsea )

Finally got to the High Line entrance at Gansevoort Street (gotta love the Dutch... my neighborhood was, after all, originally called Vlakebos. 'Course, "Flatbush" in any language makes no sense.). Good thing I went there instead of any of the other entrances! There was a street fair going on nearby, so they'd made all of the other entrances exits-only and created a main choke point here... cue 40 minute line ride!

The High Line proper )

I also took a bunch of pictures leaning off the rails on either side of the High Line.

Looking down from the High Line )

The High Line so far only goes up to 20th Street, but it looks like they're working on landscaping the rest of it. Anyway, once you hit 20th there was nowhere else to go but down and home.

Actually West 20th Street is PRETTEH in its own right, being one of those landmarked historic districts and everything. I don't even want to think about how much one of those houses cost - probably would make my 1.2M dream on Elm street look like an impoverished country cousin, lol.

West 20th Street )

All in all, a very fun, but exhausting walk. I'm improving with the Hatemonger, I think. Right now my main problem is remembering to aim for a slightly higher exposure than I think is needed, as she tends to skew kinda dark - most of the shots I thought looked fine on the camera needed a little bit of brightening when I got home. I also remembered to turn down my ISO setting this time and I'm glad I did, as when retouching a few of these, turning up the brightness didn't grain up the pictures any. So overall I'm pleased. Unfortunately, I think this is going to be my last big batch of pictures before I move, as my charger is still in storage and I don't think I'm going to see [livejournal.com profile] bluewindkitsune (or his charger, for that matter) before then.

So now... fold Dad's laundry, pack, and stress a bit about the week and about money and so on and so forth. Cara fortuitously emailed about some apartments that are coming up which look pretty nice at a glance (then again anything's nicer than Southpoint, lol). So hopefully I'll manage a little time to deal with that as well. *chuckle* I think half my problem is knowing this is not my last trip out, that I'm still going to have to come back down here at the end of the week, which to be completely honest, I'd kinda rather rip out my own liver and eat it. Gods, I just want to head up, plant my flag, and never move again. WANNA GO HOME. But at most, there's only one more of these trips before I'm home for good, and if I get my act together and stay focused, it will be the last time I have to leave. Won't that be fucking wonderful.

This got a chuckle out of me, less for the banana opening instruction (which I admit, I ran downstairs, got a banana and tried it - it works) but because the guy is wearing monkey pajamas while he's demonstrating. I wonder if he did that on purpose?

Also the guy reminds me of Jim Blau, lol. What do you think, ex-WAGgers, AMIRITE?

ETA: Helps if you actually POST the video.

I;m procrastinating from packing, see? I'm doing this meme I ganked from nounsandverbs, which is to type an entire entry with the eyes closed. I thought "aw this'll be easy" cause yes, I actually can touch type. Not fast, but decently enough. I used to be faster actually - I did painstalkingly get myself U to 90 wpm at one point, (I'm still a little fuzzy on where the nimvers are on this thinkg it'll be interesting to see if I got those right. for a while I considered learning dvorak cause it was supposed to be faster and all, but apparently all he evedence that says so is anecdotal, and plus everything and it's sister has a qwert keybard so why bother?

I find it funny that the entry I write blind is the entry all about typing...

ETA, with eyes open: Not bad. About my usual number of typos, lol.
