on games and other things you find in the toy aisle
Y'all with kids, any of yours obsessed with them thar Squinkies? Cause Kidzilla's all about them lately. I'm starting to think she just likes collecting things, based how fast she took to Dragon Cave and a couple of book series she's also kind of obsessed with. Very tempted to be the bad stepmama and get her a DS and some actual pokemanz to play with for her birthday this year. I can already see the epic eyerolling from her mother. Cackle.
Anyway so Squinkies.
cell23 and I were in Target last night and were amused to discover the entire line of WWE ones in the case.
cell23 might have done his impression of The Rock bellowing about The Rock's Return... TO THE GIRL'S TOY AISLE.
As an aside, can I just express my hatred of Girls' Toys vs Boys' Toys? and is it just me or has the segregation gotten more and more, well, dramatic over the years? Very annoying. Shopping for Legos and Nerf guns should not feel like an act of gender transgression, regardless of whether you're into that or not. They're freaking TOYS. Sheesh.
cell23 and i also caught up with Game of Thrones last night. I have some... thoughts. First of all, I am in no way hating on the second season. It's been well cast (Jesus Christ, Brienne!), for the most part very well acted (That scene with Theon yelling at his father almost made me like him a little bit) and yes, I think I will willingly watch anything Peter Dinklage does in front of a camera because he is awesome. But I think the writers truly had their work cut out for them in condensing A Clash of Kings into 10 episodes, keeping a handle on what is going on in seven different locations, and trying to stay on top of a cast of characters that gets more sprawling with each episode. A lot of the episodes feel like the main characters (those that remain, anyway) run in, wave their arms, yell "Plot Point!" and cut to the next scene. It all feels very rushed. I have to wonder what sort of impression non-book readers are taking away from it, seeing as they don't know what's being left out. When I'm not laughing at their fannish rage over x person's actions/death. Oh, you sweet summer children.
But I digress. I think if it gets picked up for season 3 I'm not gonna try keeping up with it as it airs... I think, much like the books, it's properly appreciable in a large unbroken chunk.
Last night was supposed to be the last character gen session for the VtM/VtR game
verbena76 is trying to get off the ground in the wake of Geist hiatus, but we had another player drop last night. Which was mildly disappointing, but later in the evening we managed to rope the McGurks in (so weird calling BOTH of them that now!), so it looks like Ivana Katya Kakov will live (in a sense) to bemuse and terrorize our dear storyteller and his plotlines with fabulousness.
In not even peripherally related to game news, I really need New England to warm up. I'm really tired of being cold all the damn time. I know it's mostly me and my fucked up internal thermostat (not to mention the lack of padding) but it's may. I shouldn't have to wear a thick ass hoodie at work just to stay some semblance of normally warm.
Goose out.
Anyway so Squinkies.
