Does Kidzilla not *like* being read to?

When I was little my mom and I used to read aloud to each other. Granted, this led to things like me reading Clan of the Cave Bear at 8 or 9. She was reading it... I picked it up, and read till I caught up (I had a bit more time free for reading) then we read to each other. We stopped doing it for that series after one of the characters was killed violently while I was reading, which meant that my mom could skip over the rape scene in that book, and could edit out the pages of sex in the sequels as they screwed their way across Europe. The pauses were... annoying.

I recommend choosing books with slightly more age appropriate topics.
