OH NOES I'M BECOMING ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT NEVER POSTS TO MY LJ THE WORLD IS ENDING.
Nah just kidding. But I do find the increasing tendency to be too meh or wiped out to post with my usual religious fervor interesting and a wee bit sad as well. But whatever, right?
Lets see what's new and different? We have short stacks this weekend and spent the day yesterday up with
cell23's parents and cousin. The first half of the day we spent at Tully Lake, which is quite pretty and has a nice picnic area (also pretty and nice park rangers, lol). The second half we just spent at their house kinda chilling out and letting the kids all play together (mostly read Kidzilla and Lil'Beast driving their older cousin bonkers as is the way with older/littler cousins) and then we had dinner over there and came home.
I do have to say I've developed quite a love of late summer/early fall in terms of produce. Being a city girl, I never really had the awareness that vegetables and fruits had seasons and that for most of them this is the time. Farm stands on this side of MA are fair groaning under the weight of all kinds of tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, green leafies and I don't know what all else. Oh and corn. A big part of dinner was fresh corn on the cob. Nom.
Also much to
cell23's initial exasperation, I spied his high school senior yearbook in a pile of things to toss out, and insisted on spending the next 45 minutes paging through it. Pictures of 18 year old
cell23 (and one Lil'Beast sized one in the very back) and their d'aww factor aside, I have a thing for yearbooks, even when I know nobody in them. They're just fascinating things, these picture books attempting, and for the most part failing, to summarize a year in the life of a school. Obviously they are more fun with there are people you know in them... that quote from Kavalier and Clay comes to mind about looking at old pictures of people you care about comes to mind: "The... photographs... were an inexhaustible source of wonder for him, at her having existed before he met her, and of sadness for his possessing nothing of the ten million minutes of that black-and-white scallop-edged existence save these few proofs." Pretty much nails my obsession with them on the head.
Oh speaking of photographs, I need to practice taking pictures of people taller than 40 inches. Anyone want a free photo shoot sometime soon? I know I've asked that question before, refresh me if I've offered previously.
Anyway we came home, put two very tired kids to bed, and then
verbena76 and
aersi came over to watch Rome. This would be my third or fourth time through (I've lost count) and the show remains awesome. BRING ME THE COCK OF TITUS PULLO AND THE LUSCIOUS MANIPULATIVE BOOBIES OF ATIA OF THE JULII. Quite. I also may need to get the box set of both seasons at some point, the packaging is gorgeous.
Today I think I'm off to Northampton to play some pretendy funtime gurps games with
extrajoker,
claxman and company, and then tomorrow I have a job interview up at Smith in Stoddard Hall. Sometime in amongst all of that there will be cleaning up the kid-bomb, watching Thundercats and True Blood, some more work on the job front, some more progress on the slow laborious process of detaching The Witch from the loom (since
aersi made fun of me for having not managed to finish her yet) and hopefully finishing up A Dance With Dragons, which I'm about 3/4s through and enjoying quite a bit in all its thousand page doorstoppish majesty. We'll see how it goes with all of it, as while the temperature is hovering at a pleasant 80, it is stupid humid and therefore I'm all sluggish and blerg as I slog through my day. Also since we didn't much eat at home this weekend I'm going to have to find something creative to do with Icky's two tomatoes on the kitchen table, which are quite ripe but not really big enough to do too too much with. I'd kinda like to use them for something other than sandwiches, though those ARE delicious.
But yeah, not too much going on in the life of Andee. Just the usual day to day nonsense. :)
