So I mostly "wrote" this post with the Dragon Dictate app on my phone. I downloaded it at the recommendation of Ruthy, who apparently uses it for everything. Since she swears by it, I figured I'd give it a go. It'll be interesting because I speak very differently from how I write... I sense there will be a lot of editing in post. (ETA: Oh dear gods yes wow my spoken rambling makes NO sense written down, lol.)

So, what's been going on... Ferguson. *sigh* It's been really upsetting me, for reasons that should be pretty damned obvious. I don't really want to write too much about it, honestly, both because upsetting, and also because people out there and on the ground have already written, tweeted and livestreamed quite a bit about it in the past couple of weeks as everything unfolded. But yeah, it's... it's been bringing me down, so much that I can only take twitter in small doses now. It's also deeply affected Drew - the other night we had a talk about how he came to the realization I'd been kinda carrying since Trayvon Martin was killed - that if by some miracle (or if we accepted Nuke's still standing offer on paying for a vasectomy reversal) we had a kid, that one day it could be them dead in the street for little to no reason at all. Needless to say, it threw him for a loop, and he got further thrown realizing that I've lived with this constant threat all my life. It's funny, almost anyone else I'd be all *raised eyebrow* yeah, welcome to my life, have a T-shirt, it sucks. Not so much this time - I guess what I'm feeling regarding that discussion is less the usual racial schadenfreude and more of a "ohh, he actually really gets it." I mean, yes it sucks major balls carrying the knowledge of just how much the world sucks around. They're not kidding about ignorance being bliss. (And judging by some of the shit I've seen online, there are a lot of very blissful people out there.) At the same time, it's on some level a relief knowing he does think about it and understands some of it. Not going to lie, it's a nice change from several years ago and him being irritated by the very idea of privilege and how it applies to him.

In other life and adulthood suck news, lol... actually I have some reasonably good news on that front. Reasonably because money still sucks and is going to temporarily suck a bit more than usual, but the suckage will be in service to money ultimately NOT sucking in the reasonably near future. I know, that was clear as mud, and how about I say reasonably a few more times? I guess lets just say I'd been avoiding handling a particular chunk of financial stupid and it had been feeling like an anvil about to drop on my head, but I finally gathered my gonads and dealt with it this week. Again, the dealing with it is still gonna make life annoying for a little while, but at this point I will willingly take being slightly annoyed and inconvenienced over the weight I'd been dragging for the better part of two years. So go me? I guess? Ugh. After rolling around in the relief of finally getting that handled I fell into a sulk about the various little ways my life has been slowly spinning out of my control lately. In slightly less melodramatic turns, even before this week I've noticed there's been a gradual uptick in anxiety/avoidance/self-sabotaging behavior on my part this year. Well, really since about when Dad passed, but its lately gotten to the point where if it hasn't already, its gonna start marching up my pants leg to bite the inside of my ass. So I need to get a firm handle on the plates I already have spinning, safely remove a few, and then seriously sit down and start looking for therapists again. Because fuck this shit.

There has been Massive Monkeyspace Drama on Facebook this week too, which got to such a patently ridiculous level that it looped into hilarious. I'm sure modern incarnations of the purity tests we used to forward around in college have a question concerning "have you ever lost a friend in an online fight?" and I'm also sure I'm down that point as of Monday night, but honestly considering how things fell out I'm okay with that. While the actual drama itself was eyeroll-worthy at best the aftermath seems to be causing some old previous relationship scars to flare up again which just adds some delicious flavor to the mild suck soup that is my head right now. But, eh, it will pass and I will deal with it. I don't really want to get into it much further than that.

It's not been all suck either, but a lot of the not sucky things I can't put into a public post and I also have to go put the laundry in the dryer and return to the massive pile of work that still needs to get done tonight, boo. So I will just leave you with the high point of last weekend, which was cosplaying Carmen Sandiego for Bon Appetit Burlesque's "Around the World in 80 Twirls" show:

I can't remember the last time a costume made me so fucking happy. I've been a Carmen Sandiego fangirl since the game show used to air on PBS and I'd watch it with Roy Jr when he was wee tiny. Hell, I can still sing most of the theme song from memory, but that might have more to do with me also being a Rockapella fangirl. If the wig and the hat weren't so bloody hot I'd just be Carmen Sandiego all the damn time, though I am woefully incapable of pulling off national landmark level heists. I got a lot of compliments on the outfit. Desrvedly I think... I apparently can rock a red trench coat. :)

But back to life, back to reality. *sigh* *hatred*

Got our wedding pictures back from Lesley today! (I told her I needed them in time to put on the iPad for Christmas so there would be no West Indian Fussing about them.) Dear fates. There are EIGHT HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN OF THEM. And they're all beautiful, hilarious, adorable and squeeful and schmoopy and occasionally a little sad (pictures of Barbara are rough) and sometimes a little awwwwwwwwwkward (at least one couple present at the wedding is at present divorcing) and goddamn, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 looks FIIIIIIIIIIIINE in a tux. I don't clean up half bad myself.

After going through the album several times, I think I've decided this one is my favorite:

Oh lil'Beast. *cracks up* There are at least three pictures of him GLARING evilly into Lesley's camera. There are many more pictures of him looking perfectly angelic and cute and mini-suave too, but it's this Damien from The Omen picture that absolutely murders me. I can almost hear Ave Satani in the background.

I suppose I ought to include one of me and my groom or something. Pretty hard pressed to pick just one, though. (remember... 827 pictures.) Do I go with the one of us jumping the broom?

Nailing the twirl during our first dance?

Whatever's going on here?

Smooching under a sunset?

Or do I just go fuck it, decide all of the above are irrelevant: here's a picture of [livejournal.com profile] cell23 about to eat a flaming marshmallow?

Anycrap, they're all over yonder, if you wanna poke through (One slightly NSFW warning: there are a couple of pictures pre-ceremony of me giving zero fucks about hanging out in my bra and petticoats in the presence of friends and a photographer, so if your browsing environment objects to that sort of thing, be advised.) I think the main thing I love about all of the pictures, official and otherwise? There was so much damn love in that hotel, everyone was having a good time and we look like the two happiest, dorkiest schmoops that ever did schmoopily schmoop. Eeeee.

*****************************************

In other news, the main accomplishment for today was getting almost all of the Christmas shopping done, which was a HARROWING experience. One of the reasons I wanna try to stick to budgeting this coming year is so I can splurge like fuck online on Cyber Monday and completely avoid all of this shit next year. Seriously, nothing worse than having to maneuver your increasingly homicidal husband through tightly packed retail environments, and lets not even get into the unexepected run-in with about the 2nd to last person I ever want to see ever or the parking situation. Oh gods, the PARKING. Northampton, sometimes I hate you. But between Northampton and a brief and terrifying foray to Holyoke to brave the Mall, we have pretty much achieved all the christmas shopping, and it is wrapped and ready to go under some trees or something. Tomorrow we get up early and pack, then drive across the state, park River, and take the ferry to the Vineyard, where the 74th annual Hunger Games friendly family hazing of my husband shall begin. Yay?!

Wellp, least no one can fuss at me about my lack of wedding pictures. Eight Hundred and Twenty Seven. Lawd.

I feel a little silly doing this because there's an entire month left in 2012, but it's already making the rounds so nyeh.

end of year meme )

Also regarding today:

We met eight years ago, when your oldest was still discovering her toes. Four years later, when both of our lives were rapidly unravelling, we somehow decided weathering those particular storms together was a better idea than dealing with them separately. This year we threw a party and got rings and stuff. 32 years ago, though, you were born, making all this possible.

My icon says "sail away with me." These days I'm confused as to whether the ninja sailed away with the pirate, or the pirate is chasing the ninja across the rooftops of Tortuga swearing and brandishing an empty rum bottle in a fit of pique. Either way, every year has been an adventure, and I don't think I ever want to get off this ride.

Happy birthday, my love, my darling, my [livejournal.com profile] cell23.

Yesterday was at times awesome, sad, uncomfortable, exciting and amusing. Overall, it was busy. Lots of running around to be done.

Anyway, gyn appointment was uneventful, and hopefully will remain so after the vaginapocalypse of 2010. (Okay it wasn't that bad. But colposcopies are a bitch and I do not want another one.) Other than the fact that he has to do uncomfortable things to my ladybits every so often I really like Dr. Patton. Also man, I tell you. You mention that your marital status has changed recently and you get entire offices of people in scrubs fawning all over your ass, if yesterday's and the day before's shenanigans were any indication. Wellp.

Aside though - I wonder what inspires a man to become a ladybits doctor this day and age? I'm not trying to be sexist here, though I'm aware there's a bit of bias coming through. I suppose there are lady urologists who get the same question. Really anyone, honestly - I just sorta want to walk up to folks and be all like "so, what was the moment you decided YES I WANT MY LIFE TO BE LOOKING AT PEOPLE'S JUNK ALL DAY EVERY DAY?"

For the record, I could never be a urologist. Don't get me wrong, I love your outdoor plumbing and what it does for me gentlemen (and a few ladies) but on the grand scale of all the beauty in the natural world, the male genitalia is maybe a notch or two above the duck billed platypus.

Also picked up my meds on my way home for the first time in... wow, almost a year now? Oh, medical insurance, you are wonderful. Hurray for being back in the land of $15 for a scrip instead of ten times that, and that's for a generic. We won't talk about my brand name gut pills.

Since I was super excited about getting my test beads yesterday I found a little change purse to slip the vials, needles and thread into and actually started/made a surprising amoount of progress on my test pattern while jumping various buses to and from the doctor. Between snatching beading time on the while, a bit during the opening acts at the concert (more on that later) and a little bit before bed, I got about four rows done.

I've gotten one more done since this morning and so far seeing the colors "in action" so to speak, I'm super in-love and excited. This is going to be an amazing project. It's also going to be a mind blowingly LONG project. At the rate I'm going, the fastest I can get a bead in is 50 seconds. Even if I get my pace up, once I get up to the full sized patterns, that's going to be 2.5 hours-ish per row. Yikes. Here's hoping my usual problems with attention don't kick in once I get started on the big project.

I haven't forgotten The Witch either. Been making myself work on casting her off this week during TV/movie watching tiem. It's slow, but it's happening. There will be pictures once I get one side off.

In supply news, I heard from Northampton Beadery yesterday. The Beadery prices are about in the neighborhood I'd expect after last week's online comparison shopping. A little on the high side, even, but you have to factor in a) no shipping b) local indie business. And I like them, so I'm okay with tossing them the occasional bead order instead of popping online to do it. (I'll keep delibeads bookmarked for emergencies - I was very impressed with their order turnaround.) However I apparently won't need to be placing any bulk orders for a bit because [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi went to the fucking Miyuki FACTORY yesterday. O_o Yeah, you know what, I have awesome friends.

Midway through the day I got a text from my sister, apparently sent to all of us, reminding us all to celebrate and cherish Mom's memory. She passed away eight years ago yesterday. I had a rough few moments, but mostly of the "wow... it really has been that long" variety and not of the "I miss my Mommy" sort. I mostly shook it off and went on with my day, but it did drop my sails a little bit.

After bells, I went down to Northampton with [livejournal.com profile] cell23 to see Electric Six at the Iron Horse with [livejournal.com profile] omgwtfaninja and his Manzypants. I like Electric Six well enough - not enough to call myself a super fan or anything, but I've got ten or so of their songs on semi-heavy rotation on my iPod and most of the other stuff I've heard of theirs I like. Well. While the boys say it wasn't their best live show, I enjoyed them immensely and after experiencing Dick Valentine shenanigans in person, I can kinda see what is is on which [livejournal.com profile] omgwtfaninja and [livejournal.com profile] cell23 base their "stage personas." (Example, lol.) I was kind of expecting to not recognize most of their set seeing as I don't think I've heard any of their more recent stuff, but they decided they were going to play straight through their first album and meader around in Greatest Hits territory, so it turns out that they did seven out of ten of the songs I have of theirs and all of the ones I really like. Win. Bonus to getting to watch [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and [livejournal.com profile] omgwtfaninja (who really do have the most adorable bromance I've ever seen) rock out for the entire set ([livejournal.com profile] cell23 has been complaining on twitter about how he isn't 20 anymore and Dick Valentine broke him) and getting to hang with the adorable Manzypants for a while. (oh, [livejournal.com profile] head58, not that you read LJ anymore, but Neal says hi.) And as always I left the Iron Horse with the self-admonition that I really need to get out and see more concerts. Not only do I love that particular venue, but they have a knack for booking people I actually like. Alas, I never manage to go, for whatever reason - $$ and lazy mostly. Need to fix that. Not now, obv, but down the line. Kinda like I'm always saying I need to go to the movies more too.

Still a mindfuck to me being introduced to people as [livejournal.com profile] cell23's wife. An enjoyable one, no mistake (public recognition, y'all know I love that shit), but I do wonder when and if that "Wait, what?? OH YEAH" reaction goes away.

Bah, why is it almost 1pm already? I HAVE THINGS TO DO and I haven't started any of them. >_< BAH. Oh, well, I don't need to sleep, right? :/

Finally got enough tomatoes and the time/wherewithall/rest of ingredients to try out this tomato basil bisque recipe.

Before putting it the blender:

After blending it and adding cream and cheese:

Verdict: is pretty damn yummy, I won't lie.

One kinda funny note - I'd forgotten to gather the basil out of the back pots before it got dark* so I had to tromp outside to get some in the rain. Since the back yard is dark as fuck and our back outside light has never worked, I opted to clip some of the basil in the boxes outside of our front window as those plants were marginally easier to see.** Ya know, thank fuck for Squire Village, complex of weirdoes. Anywhere else, I'm pretty sure a black woman skulking around in the dark in front of someone's living room window brandishing sharp things would be grounds for a suspicious 911 call. But no, the only suspicious witness to my 9pm basil clipping was Ash, who kept meowing crabbily at me because I am SO MEAN and won't let him OUTSIDE and he thinks this is TERRIBLE and CAT ABUSE and such, never mind that he's already proven he's too dumb to remember which door is his own the one time he escaped for an extended period of time. Cats, y'all. smdh.

But I digress. Soup is a success, most of it is now either freezing or just chilling in the big white box of cold downstairs. Between [livejournal.com profile] cell23 making colcannon earlier and me finding cherry slurpees at Sevs, not to mention yummy soup stuff, it's very much a comfort food night up in House Browne-Tatro.***

* this was a late night food experiment - we'd had dinner earlier.

** The cats love this, by the way - the plants have grown tall and bushy enough to allow them to observe the complex in stealth mode. When we come home [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I often jokingly ask each other if the basil has eyes. Very often it does - and ears.

*** possibly also a fart like a muthafuckin' BOSS night. Cabbage'll do that.

New glasses are new! And shiny! And dyeeeerrrrrgh! I'm still adjusting to them three days later. It was crazy, I put them on for the first time and WHOA NELLIE THE CLARITY IT BURNS US PRECIOUS! Which is all well and good, it was just a major adjustment. My old lenses were so scratched up and the coating was so dead that the having the new shinies on was... yeah. Whee.

The nice bit is that for the first time I have a workable sunglass type thing. The new hotnesses had a little clip on shade option so I ordered it. Sunglasses, man. I AM IMPERVIOUS TO THE EVIL DEATH RAYS OF THE DAY STAR WHILE DRIVING! Or something.

The last interesting thing about new glasses is that now that I have the new ones, all the dysfunctional patterns of behavior I'd unconsciously developed to accommodate the old busted ones are actually noticable now that I don't have to continue them. I used to hold my head at a weird angle when bending over or looking down to keep the old ones from falling off. Don't have to do that anymore, but noticed I still was last night when I was gathering up the laundry. Blerg. The other is that I hadn't noticed how close I was sitting to various computer screens or holding books and devices. Too close. It's kinda nice to be able to sit back and still see what I'm doing. Probably better for me too from an ergonomic standpoint. Plus they're cute. I'd camerawhore, but between allergies and having the Cold that Doesn't end, my nose has erupted into this special tantrum of cold sore mayhem. It's gross, and I hope it gets at least marginally presentable by Pax. But anyway. New glasses are awesome.

The weekend in general was a good one, mostly hanging with the short people doing quiet things. Lil'Beast was having a super hug and cuddle sort of weekend, which was a nice change. And Kidzilla continues to be her amusing self. I've been especially tickled by the fact that she's already developed a fantastic flounce - she now leaves the room in a hilariously indignant huff if either we tease her past a certain point or fail to behave like her interpretation of rational serious grown-ups. I always thought that was more of a teenager skill, but at seven, she's got it down and it is funny as hell.

One of the things I've been enjoying about their visits indirectly is that Kidzilla actually really likes Doctor Who and has been watching the newer series with her father on Netflix. Being the giant fanboy that he is, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 is over the moon that she's enjoying it. Yesterday we all watched "A Good Man Goes to War" and it was really fun watching Kidzilla react to the various bits of the episodes, even if a lot of the humor went over her head. (The Sontoran's line about "superior lactic fluid" still cracks me the fuck up.) But that first moment when the Doctor makes his surprise appearance on Demon's Run? She bounced in her chair and clapped her hands; it was adorable. Makes me sort of wonder if the Sarah Jane adventures are on Netflix, though awww, Elizabeth Sladen... *still sad*

In addition to the glasses I also acquired a working printer/scanner thing on Friday, and seeing as I had things to print yesterday afternoon (more on that in a bit) I got it set up. This wouldn't warrant mentioning other than it's Fisher Price My First Wireless Printer (what the hell is this wifi witchcraft? THE FUTURE) and watching the cat warily trying to ascertain what sort of intruder this thing was was unexpectedly hilarious. She'd walk up and sniff it, then it would suddenly start printing and she'd be all AAAAGH IT MOVED HOLY SHIT RUN AWAY!

Why is cat trauma so fucking funny?

Anyway, the reason to print stuff is that [livejournal.com profile] thedavin made an attempt to resurrect Drinktank, which from what I understand was a short-lived Squirekids writing workshop involving a nonzero amount of alcohol, and I decided what the hell, I'd go both to spite my socially anxious hermit tendencies and to jumpstart my writing some. Also get over that whole crippling fear of people reading my shit. It turned out to just be me, [livejournal.com profile] thedavin and [livejournal.com profile] bloodandsmoke in attendance, and none of us drank, but that said, we did join [livejournal.com profile] thedavin's family dinner (which was quite with the tasty) and had an enjoyable evening critiquing each other's work. I got some good feedback on the story intro I'd brought with me, as well as some suggestions for where the story could go afterwards. Reminds me, I need to type up the notes I'd made on both of their contributions and send them out. But anyway afterward I went home and spent some time implementing the suggestions received and starting to scribble down ideas for the next step in the story. Clearly the exercise was good for me, as [livejournal.com profile] cell23 did comment that it was nice to see me on a roll again. Anyway, we will definitely be doing it again next month. If anything, it will give me Things To Work On during my PAX downtime this weekend.

Holy shit, PAX is this weekend, eeeeeeeeeee. I don't really anticipate having all that much spending cash - when do I ever? - but the excitement of the rest of the Squirekids going is infectious and I am excited about the panels I want to attend and the list of exhibitors. I will probably spend some part of this week assembling my convention survival gear (ha). But yeah, I'm getting excited and looking forward to Friday.

Old school Valley goths'll understand why I'm more likely to lose my shit and fire up ALL the industrial/synth/goth in my collection on Tuesdays. 'Course this week I've been on a synth binge since Sunday. Discovering that there's a club in the midwest somewhere dumping their old playlists onto demonoid hasn't exactly helped, nor has Pandora's industrial channel, so for the first time in a while i've had some new (to me, anyway) stuff to listen to. How the hell had I been going to Haven intermittently from '96 almost on up to its demise last year (when a club night goes to one Tuesday every 3 months, it's dead, who are we kidding) and completely missed "Annie, Would I Lie To You?" i have no idea, but it must qualify as a minor miracle.

It's funny, I have most definitely outgrown the "eyeliner! eyeliner! Interminable angst!" and "Bloody flowers and thornkisses!" bits of gothiness, but the music has definitely stuck with me. VNV Nation, Covenant, Wolfsheim, Assemblage 23 and Apoptygma Berzerk are all in my top ten groups, which, if you consider the fact that that's five bands right there, says something. Something about stompy stompy üntz üntz music just... eh, resonates is a bad word for it, but it does fit. Also it's WICKED fun to drive to. Do yourself a favor and don't be in the car with me if Das Ich's "Destillat" (specifically the VNV Nation remix) is on. The speedometer will quite probably crack 95mph, and you quite probably will die.

An interesting side effect of the goth rabies was staying up late(r) after working until damn near midnight on job #1 stuff (ugh, responsible adulthood) talking music with [livejournal.com profile] cell23 after catching him singing a snatch of Beborn Beton (goth rabies is apparently highly transmissable) and being momentarily flummoxed. Cue an hour or so going through my music collection and discussing the aesthetics of groups like Front 242, London After Midnight and Einstürzende Neubauten, and how I still have a lot of unlistened-to garbage floating around from the dumping of other people's music collections over the years. (Inexplicably, I still have an album or so's worth of [livejournal.com profile] morlock's ICP. Yeah, what, IDEK.) And then we got into weird/outsider music, including Wesley Willis and Songs in the Key of Z and the various out-there music that's come to my attention via various mix tapes [livejournal.com profile] extrajoker and I have exchanged over the years ("She was chopping broccoli!"). It was nice - [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I tend to get lost in our own separate spheres/rooms/computers so being able to connect and giggle over common music taste was an unexpected treat.

Man, I really should do my podcast again sometime. All this blather about various and sundry just makes me want to dive right back into the Mixmeister mines.

I need a new "click!" icon I think. Maybe when I get a better mirror.

7 large pictures under here. )

Things I learned this week:

  • I hate the iPad's camera. It's good for pictures of the cat being a doof, and skype and other sorts of video, not much good for anything else. Grainy as hell and no options for adjusting it unless you download a couple apps that require jailbreaking the thing. Too much like work.

  • Still shit at remembering to white balance when I have the camera on manual settings. Also haven't really gotten the hang of depth of field. Need to work on that, because it's a pain in the ass to do in post.

  • It's pretty easy to get lazy with this during the week seeing as I work on a college campus that if it were a person would be the biggest camera whore imaginable. Every corner of that campus and even just the building I work in positively screams TAKE A PICTURE OF ME ME ME!!! every second. Even the ugly buildings photograph well.

  • Still miss having a pocket camera for this project, regardless of oogy camera quality. Carrying around the hatemonger on top of my other portable tech gets heavy.

Me: AND YOUR BRAIN JUMPED TO HIM AND MORGAN FREEMAN HAVING A TICKLE FIGHT??
cell23: It would be awesome. Tell me I'm wrong! TELL ME I'M WRONG.

My soon-to-be-husband, y'all.

Last time the kids were here (somewhat before all the lights went out), Kidzilla was taking quite an interest in [livejournal.com profile] cell23's D&D monster manuals. Generally a good sign your kids need to be talked to about the dangers of owlbears, as he put it on twitter. Very important conversation a parent needs to have with their children. Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 downloaded RPGKids from DriveThruRPG and this evening he ran it for us.

Some parents take their kids to church. Others teach their kids how to beat up orcs. )

Lil'Beast tanked like a BOSS, by the way. Also rolled like, 3 12s in a row on 12 siders. What. He usually has trouble with game rules and when his turn is and what to do when it is his turn, but this he got into with a little practice and very little problem, so I'm impressed with both him and the game. Now if we could just get him to keep the dice ON the table, lol.

We played through the first adventure and defeated the evil wizard that was turning the townspeople into frogs, and there was much rejoicing (yay). Immediately afterward both kids declared they loved it and wanted to play the next adventure. We might do that tomorrow.

I've never seen [livejournal.com profile] cell23 prouder.

Reasons why today was awesome:

2am [censored] last night. Tee Hee.

My boss and several of the minions snuck up on me earlier this morning and were all LOLSURPRISEHAPPYBIRTHDAYHAVESOMEDIABEETUS. No really, I turned around and my boss was holding a box of six bits of baked and frosted decadence from Gregory's bakery in Hadley. In the center was this red velvet... THING. So much buttercream oh gods.

Lunch hour I went downtown on errand. Lets just say I spent about sixty bucks at Oh My and came out a very happy woman and leave it at that. Thanks for the birthday money, sis. XD Managed to also snag a black dragon coleus clipping - lets see if I can keep it alive.

Stopped at Walmart on my way home (yes yes shut up) and bought two low bookcases for our bedroom. Thank fucking god, places to put books and shit that aren't the same cardboard boxes I've been staring at since we moved in. Assembling those will be my project this weekend.

got taken out to the ABC for a lovely steak dinner by [livejournal.com profile] cell23, who turns out to be a devious and sneaky fuck indeed, seeing as after we finished up he convinced me he wanted to take a look around the new restaurant for a bit, so we went past the bar and into the pool and dart space they used to have at "the Upstairs" to find that a a good chunk of the Squirefolk were there and were all HAPPY BIRTHDAY and I was like EEEOMG because APPARENTLY [livejournal.com profile] cell23 set this up all sneaky-like and I totally didn't suspect a thing and was actually surprised to see everyone. I got plied with alcohol (can you tell I'm still a little tipsy?) and got to play pool and throw sharp things at round things and EEEEEEOMG there was totally surprizorz for me and it was awesome. Thanks for coming everyone.

So yeah, as far as birthdays go, I wasn't expecting much special out of this one and yet it ended up being the best birthday I've had in at least five years. Clearly I win everything tonight.

So, happy birthday to me. Now on with this being 33 nonsense.

Scene: A dimly lit bedroom, very early in the morning. GOOSE and MANBEAST are mostly asleep, periodically rousing to snooze various alarms.

Enter CAT, galloping as fast as her four legs will carry her little butt. CAT careens around the room, across the bed, pauses, then exits.

MANBEAST: Rrrrrrmmmcat.

GOOSE: [unintelligible imprecation]

Offstage: the sound of more warp-speed galloping up and down the stairs can be heard.

Re-enter CAT. This time on taking her circuit around the room she misjudges and slams bodily into the baseboard heater before exiting again, only slightly slower.

MANBEAST: Did she just... run into the heater?

GOOSE: [unsurprised] Yup.

On the one hand, it's lunchtime and this is the first time I've gotten to sit down since getting off the bus. My feet are already screaming. On the other hand, if the traffic remains steady through the day rather than dead dead dead dead HOLY CRAP 15 PEOPLE RIGHT AT CLOSING TIME maybe I'll get out of here on time today. So it's not entirely a bad thing. Plus busy days go faster.

In completely else news, this morning was much more together than yesterday in terms of getting out of bed on time and getting morning stuff done so that's a win, even though I woke up from a strange but interesting dream wherein I was having a heart to heart conversation with someone I no longer speak to (no, not either of Them). It was weird because the conversation happened while we were trapped in a large rambling antique mansion trying to solve a murder mystery so we were wandering through all sorts of rooms and staircases that folded in on each other in Escher-esque ways (oh, dream logic) and having this intense conversation at the same time. It ended well, which was nice. Normally when real people i have beef with show up in my dreams it always devolves into screaming and waking up angsty.

Also? My brain suddenly developed an infestation of plotbunnies. We'll see whether they get exterminated by Life per usual or if the ideas actually go somewhere. If they stick around long enough, maybe I'll make another laughable crack at NaNoWriMo this year. Or as it usually works out in my case, NaNoWri48h.

I think tonight [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I are going birthday shopping for Kidzilla, since D&D is canceled. I have some plans for what I want to get her, and something I wanted to make but I got sidetracked, so it's gonna wait until Christmas. (Considering it was going to be a calendar/journal like object, it makes sense to give it to her at the turn of the new year anyway.) I'm kinda psyched about it, honestly. I remember seven being a pretty awesome year. At the same time whaaaaaaaaaaat? She's seven already? Man, the old. I has it.

Ugh, I really don't want to put my shoes back on and head back up into the computer trenches. :P No rest for the wicked, and since wicked is tattooed on my shoulder, that includes me.

bottledgoose: "Library Holds Pickup Notice: The material you requested (Martin, A dance with dragons) is ready to pick up at the library." #OMG #yaybooks

bottledgoose: herein lies the question, do I drop everything and go get it or do I be good and finish cleaning the downstairs first?

cell23: @bottledgoose YOU GO GET THAT SHIT AND I CAN CLEAN

cell23: @bottledgoose WHY ARE YOU NOT ALREADY AT THE LIBRARY

bottledgoose: @cell23 Cause a) I can't teleport b) you have the car c) they ain't open till 1 today so I'd have to break in.

cell23: @bottledgoose NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

bottledgoose: @cell23 It's not like you'd be able to get your mitts on it until you got home anyway. And then you have game. Nyeh.

cell23: @bottledgoose DADDY NEEDS HIS HIT

bottledgoose: @cell23 Daddy's been spoiled on all the good bits anyway and can wait. :P

cell23: @bottledgoose i'll just sit over here while my veins collapse then

bottledgoose: @cell23 Do what you always do during the week and inflate them with coffee.

Looks like I'll be squeezing a trip to the library into my afternoon.

Because some days I freely admit that most of my brain never matured past the sixth grade:

[livejournal.com profile] bottledgoose: as an aside, your ice cream spoon is positively festooned in vulvas
[livejournal.com profile] cell23: it's not like i'm making a mask out of... what?
[livejournal.com profile] cell23: that's... how?
[livejournal.com profile] bottledgoose: FESTOONED.
[livejournal.com profile] cell23: i don't have an ice cream spoon.
[livejournal.com profile] bottledgoose: in some seriously vaginal flowers
[livejournal.com profile] bottledgoose: yeah you do
[livejournal.com profile] bottledgoose: its the spoon with the really long handle. For ice cream floats.
[livejournal.com profile] cell23: ah
[livejournal.com profile] cell23: also called "just another spoon"
[livejournal.com profile] bottledgoose: so much for being specific in regards to which spoon is vaginariffic

And to think, that snippet came AFTER the more disturbing part of the conversation involving elves murdering people with candy cane shivs. But seriously, I'm not making this up:

To be fair, The House has an equally "floral" shower curtain in the upstairs bathroom that makes me *snrrrk* all the damn time. I mean, I get the whole flowers=vaginas imagery but sometimes I want to walk up to people that design this stuff and be all like "HOW DO YOU NOT SEE THAT???"

Had an interesting twist on the old dream where you show up to a final exam to a class you never went to, in that I was preparing for a trip overseas that was happening in a few days and only just realized I never got my passport. The part where it got weird is as I tearing about The House frantic about this my mother (who often shows up in these dreams alive and well) calmly told me to stop freaking out and go look in the freezer with the rest of the Important Papers. Right, okay. Not sure what all my subconscious was trying to impart to me there, but felt it was just off the wall weird enough to note for posterity.

I've never had a passport, incidentally. I should fix this. I'd like to GTFO of the US for a while someday. Still unsure as to where I'd go, but it'd be nice to go somewhere.

I have solved the mystery of why I fell out of the habit of getting up at the ass crack of dawn, seeing as I have started doing it again. Hungry cats. Lily has figured out that the quickest way to wake up her humans is to kick my glasses off my nightstand, the sound of them falling to the floor instantly rouses me. Dick. Also the soporific effects of warm glomphy bedtime companion do nothing for my early rising abilities, especially as he routinely fails to get out of bed until fifteen minutes before he has to be at work. But yeah, apparently kitty needing foodins is a far more effective alarm clock than anything else I've tried. We'll go with that.

I started watching Community with the boy last night finally. Two eps in and it is cute, snarky fun, not to mention another opportunity to ogle Joel McHale. I can't get over how old Chevy Chase is. My mental picture of him is from Christmas Vacation, what the hell happened? Oh, yeah, 20 years, right. I'm still a little O_o about that, honestly, that it's been almost two decades since a whole lot of random pop culture and music I remember loving/watching/listening to. And then I remember I was a kid 20 years ago. And then the whole "20 years ago" thing hits me and my brain just kinda melts a little around the edges. I'm not sure how/when I got old enough to say "20 years ago" and have that refer to an actual period of sentience in my life. What. Just bring me the Geritol and Dentugrip now.

Today is Stan's birthday. Also today is when Dad gets out of rehab and goes home with Ruth thereby to terrorize her for a couple months while we all finish tending to The House. Looks like phone calls will make up a significant portion of my day.

I've been all thinky this week. Some good. A lot bad, honestly. Mostly neutral. And deeply thankful for the handful of things in my life that are going very very right and keep me going through the rest of it. One of which is STILL ignoring his alarm clock and snoring behind me, lol. I should go kiss him before he lumbers out of bed.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

You guys, it looks like an entire box of Crayola crayons just exploded onto my head, and yes I mean that in a very very good way. And yes, there will be pictures, I promise. Really my one problem is that there might not be ENOUGH color radiating out of my head what with the long skinny microbraids and since I intend on wearing it in two very high pigtails for pax, I may be up Thursday or Friday night snipping out additional yarn to make into falls for the day. Or I might just decide fuck it. Whatever it looks amazing... and thank heavens I have a neverending supply of black/dark clothing - anything brighter than maroon is gonna clash horribly with this, lol.

I finished rewatching season 1 of Buffy while yarning up last night. (Can we say all hail the Netflix gods?) This is only my second time through the series, so this is the go-round in which I get to appreciate how far in advance Joss Whedon set up some of the key events later on, cause damn, foreshadowing a go-go. Also I'm kind of impressed by how well the series has held up after 14 years, The effects are starting to show their age, but everything else is still really engaging and watchable. And as usual when watching an older series, I'm O_o by how young everyone (David Boreanaz in particular) looks. You kinda want to run up to all the Scoobies and pinch their cheeks. Thanks to the glory of Netflix, it should be much easier to watch Buffy and Angel concurrently this time around seeing as I won't have the issue of having to maneuver between DVD sets. Ah the wonders of modern technology.

[livejournal.com profile] cell23 needs to leave stuff in the crock pot more. By 5pm the house smelled wonderful and dinner was rather horrendously delicious. Also I need to take a crack at making stew sometime soon.

Today: work, to-do list, cleaning, bells, not killing the cat for being a dickbutt. Not in that order.

What are people giving up/working on for Lent? I'm not doing it this year mostly cause I didn't think about it.
