Ever read something that just makes you feel whacked about the head and shoulders with sledgehammers of truthiness? Yeah, I just read [livejournal.com profile] tacit's latest entry and boy howdy am I in a PLACE right now. I need to go have some serious thinks now, yikes. Maybe with a side of angst. :/

By the way, if the amusing exploits and intensely thought provoking essays of a poly atheist kinkster geek appeal to you, I strongly recommend friending [livejournal.com profile] tacit either here or on twitter (he's @franklinveaux there). And regardless, give his latest post on couple privilege and how it comes into play in poly relationships a read, even if you're monogamous. It will certainly make you think.

If people are interested in reading about the Mysterious SQWRRL Project (this will include lots of nattering on about programming and QRCodes, sophomoric jokes about nuts, and occasional rants about how squirrels are all evil and need to be destroyed written in-character by the game's main antagonist) I've started a separate LJ/blog for it over at [livejournal.com profile] sqwrrl.

There's also a twitter (CBombSQWRRL) but I haven't been nearly as good about keeping up with that. That will mostly be in-character squirrel-flavored Hatorade though.

Disclaimer: I actually don't hate squirrels, I kinda think they're perversely cute when they're not being the assholes of the rodent world.

HOLD UP there's an LJ community dedicated to snarking on The Baby-sitters Club???

WENDY, I'M HOME.

([livejournal.com profile] bsc_snark, cause I KNOW I'm not the only one. *side-eyes the likely suspects*)

In other squee news, just got off skype with Kidzilla who has a brandy new hole in her smile due to a lost front tooth. Its pretty hilarious-looking. Will have to get more pictures of it this weekend.

For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

"LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."

So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue.

Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users effected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation.

[insert high-pitched double-tone here]

I'm just noodling about with my Dreamwidth account, which only gets any attention during LJ outages. Not migrating permanently over here or anything (though I probably will suck over all three or four of my LJs over here just for additional backup purposes), but setting stuff up in case of marauding Russians (of course not counting [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi.)

Also if you have a DW account and you haven't added me to your circle, please do so.

So I don't know what fuckery is up with LJ? but apparently I can only actually post to mine if I connect to my work VPN first. Which... what? Come on son. No wonder this place is dying. Hell, the only reason I'm still here is because long form journalling is kind of an addiction for me and my primary method of processing, which I can't quite do on other, sexier, shorter forms of social media, and my brainspew is far too generalized and random to be a "blog" as it were. Meh.

Well, I and a few folks will just have to be the dance band on the Titanic. Sing "Nearer, My God, to Thee." (The iceberg's on the starboard bow, won't you dance with me?)

Anyone else still having issues or am I, as usual, the only gay eskimo in my tribe? (Don't ask, that song's been stuck in my head for two solid days now.)
anagramofbrat: (lol internet)
It's not, actually, just more of a notice that except for possibly the nightly twitter recap, I'm mostly withdrawing behind the friends only locks. No major reason other than that seems to be how things are going, and even public attention hounds like myself need moments behind a moat and a portcullis. (Especially in the bathroom.)

That said, I don't get "addition to flist" notices - if you're here lurking about and I haven't added you for whatever reason and you find my daily mad ramblings entertaining, holler and I'll fix it.

Little known fact about me - I love sports jerseys. One of my secret selfish desires is buying one and lounging around the house in its broad shouldered, breathable folds. Problem is I'm not that hardcore of a sports fan and I never felt like enough of a fan of any team or any player to ever justify getting one, and somehow the effort of following a team for a season seemed too much like work. So I resigned myself to admiring jersey designs from afar.

Yeah, I'm a little weird. You all know this.

So this morning I saw this:

Well. Those are a couple teams I know I support. Leaning towards the Ally jersey, a) because I'm not a fan of the Horde design b) Eh. I like the Horde well enough, but at heart, I've been an Alliance girl from day one.

Course, it's not like I've even been playing lately. Hell, I still have paperwork I gotta fork over to Blizz to prove I wasn't gold farming while not subscribed. :P Stupid account hackers.

In other WANT news, [livejournal.com profile] htl_1126 sent me this this morning:

Wellp, I had no reason to go to Portugal until now. Seriously, I'd go just to spend an hour goggling at this bookstore. Yes, it's a bookstore. Gifuh.

Somewhere in me is an extended essay about Livejournal, why I still post, and why I'm one of those who will be going down with this particular ship, but I can't write it right the fuck now. But since I know people have been asking, Dreamwidth does allow you to import your entire journals over (I may have invite codes, though I never use any of the accounts I have over there - username parking being what it is.) Also I personally use and love LJArchive to back up my journals periodically, and since it allows you to index and search your entries/comments, I occasionally use it for that as well. But back to the main point, considering I just realized as of tomorrow I will have been on LJ under various usernames for for eight years, maybe that's an entry for then.

The problem with mostly working from home is that snow days are pretty much days like any other except for the prospect of company. In this case, lots of it, as digging out Squire is a dodgy proposition at this point and I know at least two people have completely failed to get out of here and everyone else are on official snow day time. Still, there's about a foot on the ground so far and the storm is scheduled to rage for the remainder of the day. Perhaps I will venture out and take some pictures later.

[livejournal.com profile] cell23, bless him made a valiant effort to go to work this morning, but snow is mighty and River is a teeny little car. He'd have had better luck taking Hanzo, but I didn't think to let him know that until after he was out there. I very much doubt anyone'll be checking his stickers today. Nevertheless he did make the attempt, and he just charged back out to give [livejournal.com profile] virtualdragon a hand with his. *shakes head* He's a good man, that man o' mine. (ETA: ah. That attempt was more successful, as he just IMed me from work.)

Seeing as all of MA is well and truly whitefucked until at least tomorrow, today seems like a good opportunity to play a little catchup with workstuff, so that, along with some around-the-house type pottering, is what I plan to do. But first, I think more coffee and some investigation on whether there's anything left in that box of Frosted Flakes the manbeast brought home last night is in order. Or oatmeal. Haven't decided which.

ETA: Just a quick housekeeping note - if you have a dreamwidth account, can you add my username to your circle pretty please? I'm not switching, but I do have an account over there (same username) for locked comment and reading porpoises.

Been reasonably quiet lately for two reasons - 1) work snowballed this week as it does at the end/beginning of every year, so a fair amount of time is me doing work and freaking out about said work. 2) I've honestly felt like hairy sweaty goat balls since Christmas with what seems like alternating 2 days of being reasonably okay and 2 days of pretty much camping out no less than 15 feet from a bathroom. Crohns is superfuntimes, y'all. Going with that is me being sluggish and tired and cranky and sore, so I'm kinda out of it most of the time. C'est ma vie, maintenant.

Anyway, long story short, I'm not up to my usual bubbly "everything is interesting and cool and I must share it now with everyone" mode. My head feels like concrete and all i really want to do is dive under the covers and nap until I feel better. Or at least until food stops regarding my GI tract as the premium slip n slide at the water park with the three hour line and camps out in there long enough to do me some actual good.

Plus I don't know. I think after years of overexposure I'm finally bored/burned out/disgusted with the internet/social networking and just want to turn my computer off and hide right now. Alas, I'm kinda forcing myself to stay in front of EPEEN long enough to get work crap done so I actually have money for a change. What seems to be helping this is finding a motherlode of MST3K episodes on Netflix, so I've had those on in the background a lot while I attempt to do productive things during the day. We all have our ways of keeping sane, eh?

So, yeah... I'm still here. I just don't really have anything exciting/significant/notable/real to say other than Life Continues Apace. I guess when I do, I'll be back.

Just as an aside note and a heads up, I'm toying with the idea of taking my LJ friends only soon. Clutch the pearls, I think I'm developing a sense of discretion in my old age...

  • Hanzo still regards snow as no big thing. What snowbank plowed behind me? VROOM.

  • That wind was CRAZY ASS SHIT today. I am honestly very surprised we didn't lose power at all. Also days like this, thermal underwear is a positively delicious thing.

  • My intestines hate me. I need to be nicer to them until New Years.

  • Watched the DW Christmas Carol this evening. non-spoilery teal deer: I enjoyed it. )

Rest of season? CAN. NOT. FUCKING. WAIT. River Song and the whole I'll be in my bunk aside, Matt Smith may bring sexy cool back to the Stetson.

  • I got accepted into [livejournal.com profile] stepmoms today. I'd honestly forgotten I'd applied at the beginning of the month. Extra support and "no you're not crazy" always welcome. :)

  • Tonight's experiment in chicken seasoning ended up an unexpected success. Been trying to vary it up from just breading and baking it. So far so good. I'm surprised and honestly a little appalled by how much I rather like getting dinner together several times a week. Domestic? Me? who'da thunk it? Buh.

  • Need to stop 'crastinating about a few things tomorrow and get down to some brass tacks. Also my resolution list for next year is getting CRAZY. I need to prune it down so that my goals are actually achievable.

  • Habari Gani! Kugichagulia! No, I don't celebrate Kwanzaa, but the second day of it has meaning to me - not so much as self-determination (though goodness knows I could use some of that on a personal level), but as a reminder of an interesting time now way in my past. Also it's wicked fun to say.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know. Like I even HAVE a Black card anymore.

  • Got the pictures off my phone (it's still good for that at least) and my camera for the last month, so I'm caught up reasonably with my 365 project. I haven't kept up with it nearly as well as I'd have liked, and I note that the chunks of time I missed pretty much directly correspond to my bad patches of anxiety and whatnot. However the project did get me into the habit of taking pictures of things that catch my fancy and got me out into the big wide world on occasion with the Hatemonger. Also I have a good handle on what needs work in terms of technique, the limitations of the Nikon starter lens, and under what conditions I can get better than decent pictures out of my phone camera, so I won't count it as a total failure even if I wasn't consistant with it.

Also? I don't think I can complain about not having a constant human subject anymore. Kidzilla and Lovebug have filled out that role VERY nicely to the point where I definitely have to roll over their picasa album come January first. It's just crazy to me how much they've grown up in the year and change that comprises that album, I can't even.

But I digress. I don't THINK I'm going to attempt project 365 next year, but I will be taking lots of pictures nonetheless. Just not strictly one per day. And I'm thinking a small goal to save for this year is some more camera equipment. Like holy balls of hell, can I buckle down and get a motherfucking tripod already? Sheesh. But I also would like a better zoom lens and some filters. Also want to actually take the DSLR class at Iris Photo one of the times it rolls around next year.

  • little bit of a heads up, I'm going to be doing a little temporary friends pruning. Not a cut, because I'm not defriending anyone or dropping people from filters or nothing, but my default reading list has gotten overwhelming and one of the things I want to do in 2011 is step back a bit from the interbutts. Since I'm not really announcing who I'm filtering off, I'll just say if it's important, shoot me a comment/message just to make sure I see it, and I'll still be reading everyone, just a few of you won't be getting read quite as often as, oh, every three minutes.

The highlight of my evening, though? Getting pinged by [livejournal.com profile] chirping_monkey because Kidzilla wanted to Skype and tell me all about her new dragons. XD What have I done to this poor child? LOL. I was having a bit of an iffy day emotionally, truth be told, but fifteen minutes squeeing over holiday eggs and pretending to pinch the camera and getting the Christmas breakdown with a very giggly six year old? Yeah. Dear fates she looks adorable without her bottom teeth, lol.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! ~~ (hers) Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!
