I'd heard in passing that Nora Ephron had died yesterday. It wasn't something that made a huge blip on my radar - I enjoyed the movies she'd done that I'd seen, but that was about it.

Someone posted this quote to Goodreads to mark her passing this morning. Needless to day I found it rather apropos.

I married him against all evidence. I married him believing that marriage doesn't work, that love dies, that passion fades, and in so doing I became the kind of romantic only a cynic is truly capable of being.

Yeah, that works.

cell23: Candidate for best sound in the universe: James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman... having a tickle fight!
Me: ...WHAT.
cell23: AM I WRONG?
Me: That thought just popped, unbidden, into your head?
cell23: Well, not unbidden, there was a Visa commercial narrated by Morgan Freeman on just now...
Me: AND YOUR BRAIN JUMPED TO HIM AND MORGAN FREEMAN HAVING A TICKLE FIGHT??
cell23: It would be awesome. Tell me I'm wrong! TELL ME I'M WRONG.

My soon-to-be-husband, y'all.

EDIT: cell23: Oh, you spelled James Earl Jones wrong.* You spelled it "Morgan Freeman." So Morgan Freeman and Morgan Freeman would be having a tickle fight. WHICH WOULD ALSO BE AWESOME.

* no i didn't.

Just so you know, sometime in college I was rendered unable to discuss anything related to popovers with a straight face because a friend of mine exposed me and a bunch of mutual friends to Muppet Frog Prince.

Thankfully popovers don't come up in conversation very often around me, and when they do it's always directly in reference to getting them at Judie's in Amherst, which is notorious for them. But in case you're talking to me about popovers, don't think I'm weird if I feel the need to be all "HAVE A POPOVER FROGGY."

Muppet Frog Prince is also directly responsible for "Nighty night. *fwooomp*" Which I also will quote from time in moments of extreme tiredness.

My Valentinr - kjpepper Love me.

Right that's over with.

Things are hectic in the MA right now so I'm not really posting, just putting up a note saying I've indeed escaped New York. Today I'm confronted with the dread-like knowledge that there aren't enough hours in the day and not enough NOS to get what needs doing in those few hours alloted within each. But I must try anyway.

Also the quote on Ruthy's bathroom wall that I've been staring at all week:

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
-- Calvin Coolidge

Message aside (though it is indeed one I need very badly to take to heart) I just really like the phrase "educated derelict."

It's good to be home. And now for the six billion item to-do list of doom. *sigh*

Mal: But it ain't all buttons and charts, little albatross. You know what the first rule of flying is? Well, I suppose you do, since you already know what I'm about to say.

River: I do. But I like to hear you say it.

Mal: Love. You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as a turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' before she keels. Makes her a home.

I just got back in after spending an hour and a half digging Hanzo-san out of the corner space where I put him last Monday before I left for New York, where he has sat through an ice storm, two snowstorms and a cold snap at the beginning of the week where temperatures got below -10. After all of that, fully expecting nothing to come of it, I put his key in the ignition and turned, and he roared into life like he was saying "Heya, babe. Miss me?"

That Serenity quote wandered into my head then and I shit you not, I put my head on the steering wheel and just bawled my eyes out for a good five minutes.

Goddamn, I have got to get this lump of metal back on the road soon. I miss him too much. Also I think I've been holding back that cry since, like, Christmas.

Cleaning out my iPod notes, found a quote I'd overheard at Christmas:

"Well, of course it's gone! You bought one bottle of orange soda, and you have a house full of Black people? What did you expect!?"

Heh. I should give them a call tomorrow.
