It's been a mostly good mixed bag of a weekend. It was kinda hot and sticky for most of it (I know, welcome to mid-July, right?) but not nearly as bad as it has been lately, and nothing a good fan pointed in my general direction couldn't handle.
We had the kids this weekend, and yesterday we went to see cell23's parents for a small birthday gathering for their cousin. This gave me an excuse to shop at A2Z beforehand and I will willingly take any excuse to go to there., seeing as I only allow myself a trip there if I'm buying presents for other people. Anyway, the small gather was nice, J seemed to like the DK books we got him, and there was food and ice cream. Of course I then left my wallet/ipod over there like a doofus, necessitating cell23 having to drive back up there this morning to get it. Le sigh.
Oh man, that iPad Reading Rainbow app. Never have I seen such an effective cash for nostalgia engine before in my life. That little synth sound that evokes the proverbial Butterfly In The Sky? That's all it takes for me to be all like SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY, but the fact that they brought back LeVar Burton to record new segments for it? Well done on the whole capitalizing on my childhood front, except I can't even be mad because a) it's a really good app and b) come on, LeVar Burton? If it were possible for me to fling my panties at him through the internet I would. I'm not even ashamed to admit that. I mean, need I remind you?

'Nuff said.
The garden abides, though I think the pea plants have had it. They need to be started earlier in the season, cause this weather just brutalized them. Meanwhile everyone else is doing well. The tomatoes have started dropping mad fruit; I actually packed Anna off with the first three beef tomotoes, as I wasn't quite sure when I'd get around to cooking them and they were quite ripe. We also have our first few Indigo Rose cherry tomatoes, which I'm looking forward to trying since I've never had a purple tomato before. No peppers or cukes yet, the basil is trying to take over the world and I can't tell what's up with the broccoli plants and whether they are fail or not.
Kids had a decent weekend. Lil'Beast insists Ash's name is Raincloud and gods forbid you say otherwise in his presence. We're not that concerned, he insisted Lily's name was Molly for the first couple months we had her.
Speaking of the fuzzmeisters, they're actually calming down and getting used to each other. They still roll around and swat at each other, but Ash seems to have cut out the neck biting and Lily seems to have discovered the pleasures of suddenly raining down terror from above her fuzzy, somewhat stupid prey.I say somewhat stupid, as Ash clearly has not the sense to look for her above eye level; if she's in the room but higher than he is he will not see her. It's funny as hell when she then jumps down on him.
As for not getting into high places, not so much. I looked up onto the top shelf in the kitchen to discover that half my spider plant had been mown to the dirt. I'm honestly too impressed he managed to get up there without breaking his neck to be mad. (This cat regularly falls out of the windowsills.) Plus that plant's bounced back from catnoms before, I'm sure it will again.
Something about summertime increases my words read per minute or something - I blew through my last two library books this weekend. I'll post a media consumption post soon, I'm rather behind on that, and I have been reading and TVing a bit these days.
I have 9 eggs I have to use up tomorrow. Thinking I may solve this by getting an asston of cake mix tomorrow. Meanwhile the breakfast for dinner I made tonight? tasty. And amazingly, not disagreeing with me.
Meh, my life, it is constant, reasonably uneventful and decent. :)
