Just completed row 18.

Hey we have an entire word now!

Its weird how crafting projects start to take on personalities of their own after you've been working on them for a while. For this one, I definitely think of each row as having discrete sections; the largest being the 80 bead main section which I've found myself referring to as "the desert." Crossing said desert sucks. It's a long ass section of mostly the same color where nothing is happening and it takes forever to get across it (usually the better part of an hour), and even when there's a sun to break it up a little, it's still a big swath of mostly nothing and by the end I kinda want to gouge out my soul with my needle. This section is going to remain pretty ignominious until I get to the first row of musicians at row 44... which still seems a lifetime away.

The other big section is "the badge," which is about thirty beads less horrible and due to the letters, crossing it is made interesting reasonably quickly.

Working on this has gotten weirdly addictive, especially since the wrist and arm soreness I was initially experiencing after a while is now completely gone. I'm sure this is some harbinger of horrendous wrist splode to come, or I'm just awesome. But I've been sticking to a two row per day limit, though now that it's starting to actually look like something I have to actively battle the desire to keep working on it no matter what. This is the sort of project that could very easily take over my entire life if I let it, especially since it seems to be a scarily good self-soothing sort of project. Hence the beading like a fiend over this past weekend and today, when due to being home and other stuff, my anxiety's been kinda through the roof. However, I need to be disciplined about this, not only out of concern for my continuing wrist function, but also because I need to get other Big Life Shit done and give some time and space to other irons I have in the fire which I've been neglecting in favor of this. This is challenging because I'm all NO MUST WORK I WANNA GET TO THE INTERESTING PARTS. Alas I have to cross the desert and back several more times before the pattern gets interesting for real. Oh well, Rome was not built in a day; likewise this will not be stiched in one, no matter how hard I push myself.
