In news other than Iron Man Sexiness
Mar. 5th, 2013 07:13 pmLife goes. Turns out not one but two of my friends had baby boys last weekend, so all kinds of congrats for successfully propogating the species are in order. Both are actually pretty cute for fresh-baked newborns if the pictures on Facebook are anything to go by; none of that wrinkly grumpy old man face so many of them have when they first pop out. :)
Dad's in the hospital, unfortunately - some sort of fluid buildup in his lungs. He was kinda vague on what seems to be causing it when I talked to him; I'll have to pump my sister for actual info when I get a hold of her. The good news is he'll most likely be sent home tomorrow, so whatever it is, not THAT serious. Well, okay when you're pushing 86 everything is serious, but in the grand scheme of things this isn't so bad. I couldn't resist teasing him a little when I called him on Sunday about how he just HAD to get hospitalized on the same day as the Queen, didn't he (Dad is a RABID royal watcher) and he laughed so hard he dropped the phone. I may get annoyed at my general position as the family court jester, but you can't say I'm not good at it.
We had Drinktank on Friday night... I need to make a post later about writing and stuff and how I need to do it more and ways to make that happen.
We had the kids this weekend, which is always fun. We had to take Lil'Beast out for new sneakers, and then we went to the Jones Library, which was a zoo and full of the sort of parents that make me want to beat them using their oh so special snowflake of a child as a bludgeon. In one case the drastic difference between parenting styles along race/class lines became incredibly apparent to me during one family's exchange regarding one particular tactic to get the kids moving out of a place. Course, it could just be the utter crunchiness of amherst at work, but JEEZ-O PETE PEOPLE. Trip was however, redeemed by watching Lil'Beast charm the pants off of everyone he encountered, most hilariously the librarian when he toddled over to the desk with a stack of train books, one of which is at least as long as he is from knees to top of head and then proudly presented his very own library card to check them out. He kills me sometimes. It's always interesting watching the two of them navigate through the world - he's figured out that his big blue eyes and wicked little smile'll get him through and out of just about anything and will talk the ears out of anyone he can grab the attention of - meanwhile Kidzilla's so all up in her own head that sometimes it takes a while to get her attention... and lord help you if you expect her to interact with strangers at all - she just flat won't do it. There are reasons he's got his own library card and she doesn't.
After we came home from the library both kids insisted on helping me make dinner, which was adorable.
Sunday we spent most of with
cell23's parents since they hadn't seen the kids in a while, and then we had to drive them back home, so that was a long day, especially since it started with Kidzilla rousting me out of bed so we could have some morning girl time. Which means we did our nails while watching Invader Zim. Awesome.
Other than that, it's been mostly same old same old. There's some weird brain weather happening and other stuff too, but a) I need to go make dinner and b) it's not public post material. For the most part though, all's reasonably well in Andeeland.
