This is not my media consumption post, as I have not ACTUALLY seen last night's Game of Thrones yet.
That said, having read the books I knew exactly what was coming all along and prepared myself for the howl of rage/WTF/OHNOTHEYDIDNT that resounded across the internet last night at about 10pm Eastern Daylight Time and is still echoing now.
I'm a bad person, I freely admit this. Having gone through this once already the first time I read A Game of Thrones (why exactly did they drop the "A" for TV I wonder?), I do totally feel the pain/rage. However if my digestion wasn't severely fucked up, I'd totally be eating popcorn and giggling as I watch everyone else who has not read the books thus far collectively shit themselves. This right here is why you do not spoil things for other people, otherwise how do you get to bathe in their tears later?
And then there is This Guy. Striking resemblance to
bluewindkitsune aside, his 12 minutes of pure unadulterated FUCK YOU post-episode is wonderful. He even gets a phone call midway through and is like "WHO IS CALLING ME?! NO! GO FUCK YOURSELF! I"M PISSED OFF HERE!"
It's a hilarious thing to watch, NGL. It also is a very good illustration of how people are SUPPOSED to react to a good story. If bad things happen to a character you like, let alone love, it means the writer(s) have done their job and correctly. They've gotten to you to actually give a shit about these "people" that don't actually exist and their trials/tribulations. Even better if it's a character who clearly displays flaws, errors in judgment, or sometimes downright evil. That's kind of the main brilliance of this particular series in my opinion - over the course of the four (soon to be five) books, every single character presented to us is gray - there are no clear heroes or villains, and even when there are, the heroes are fully capable of despicable acts and villains more than occasionally show love, mercy, or sympathy to their cause. Yeah sometimes it does make it hard to know which team to root for, but even so, that somehow makes the people running around Westeros and participating in these political games much more real to me. Real life works like that - very rarely do you get anyone that is wholly good or evil. Most of the time you get folks just trying to do the right thing at the right time, whatever they think that may be, but choosing correctly or poorly often seems like a crapshoot depending on the far reaching consequences. Which of course no one can see, seeing as we can't really read the future.
But high falooting principles aside... I'm very much looking forward to actually watching the ep later on. And in the meantime I am unabashedly enjoying the tears of the folks that had not until last night gotten that when we warn that No One Is Safe in A Song of Ice and Fire, we truly mean it.
Also, it's a GIP, because Peter Dinklage has some serious sexy trollface happening here.

That was me after my favorite character got killed off in Kekkaishi-- swearing? Check. Tears of rage/grief? Check. Imprecations against the creator? You best believe there were.
