anagramofbrat: (read a book)
Procrastinating from housecleaning = lots of posting on the internet, apparently.

So as most of you know, I'm doing the goodreads challenge again this year (75 books this time!) and I need suggestions. Not picky about genre, target age group or fiction/non-fiction (hint - I quite enjoy biographies), if you think I might like/enjoy/be interested in $book, throw down a recommendation and I will read it. Or at least try. I rarely put down a book in the middle even if I dislike it, but it has happened a time or two. :)

and GO.

Sent a couple your way... I reread both on a regualr basis (I'm a sucker for both romantic stories and "man grows wiser" stories...

Oh, for those not named Bottledgoose, I recomend:
March Upcountry
1632.

Oh wait, both of these are FREE. Forgot to mention that. Sorry

I remember reading march upcountry, I feel like it just ended in the middle of the story.

Yes, I guess it did end in the middle, sort of. It's part of a series. The second book of the series (March to the Sea) is available for free too.

Racing the Dark UGH I LOVED IT SO MUCH and the second one, and apparently the trilogy is never going to get finished, which makes me cry. Every year I see her at Readercon and I'm like "Spirit Binders?" and she's like "Ummmmmmm. . .probably never because no one wants to give me money for it, here, have some Jazz Age Vampires?" and I'm like "GODDDDDD I GUESS IF IT'S ALL YOU'VE GOT RIGHT NOW" although I actually still haven't read that series yet, but when she talks about it it sounds really cool.

Also yes on Jemisin, assuming you mean the new one, the Dreamblood book, I think is what the series is getting called? There's a short story of that available from PodCastle, I can link if people want it. Also I still have to actually read Kingdom of the Gods.

I meant Kingdom of Gods -- and the Jazz Age vampires series is fab, and really reminescent of the Gilda stories (except Gilda is a lesbian)

There's also the Benjamin January series by Barbara Hambly. Best mysteries ever

The Truth Machine by James L. Halperin is an interesting read.

Peter Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga (Pandora's Star/Judas Unchained) and its sequel Void Trilogy (Dreaming Void, Temporal Void, and Evolutionary Void) are quite good. Also nice and doorstoppy.

I've also greatly enjoyed Patrick Rothfuss's KingKiller Chronicles series (Name of the Wind/Wise Man's Fear).

For non-fiction, Michael Lewis's The Big Short remains one of my favorite books of the past few years.
