It's been a horrifically long time since I last made a mix with a theme. This afternoon an idea for one kinda popped into my head like an old friend suddenly back in town: Songs that contain an introduction to a character, or a correction to one. As in they contain, either in the title or the lyrics "My name is", "They call me", or some statement to the contrary.

And if you really like doing theme mix tapes, you may want to sign up for the site Metafilter.com just to get involved with the Mix CD swaps they do time to time -- one of the members coordinates it a couple times a year. If you want in you sign up, and you get put into a group with 5 other people. Everyone makes 5 copies of a mix CD and sends it to everyone else in their group.

So far I've done:

* An all-Bo-Diddley-riff mix
* A George-Harrison-career-retrospective mix
* An all-Irish-rockers mix (which has more than JUST U2, thank you)
* Boats and boating

And a mix that is the auditory equivalent of Ambien, which is guaranteed to put you to sleep if you're stressed out.
