anagramofbrat: (mass autumn)
Getting on towards the latter half of October, where the weather just can't figure out what the hell it's doing. 70 degrees one day, frost warning the next evening, OMG WIND! AND RAIN! the next. And as we all around here remember, we had that crazy ass blizzard the weekend before Halloween where everyone around here lost power for 3-12 days, it was crazy. I rather like the unpredictability, honestly, now that I no longer have one day in whose weather I have a vested interest.

Kind of a calm, low-key kids weekend: since I have officially jack-all to do during the day I went and got the kids early on Friday. Of course, whenever I have to do any sort of actual long distance driving the weather tends to throw snitfits - I remember driving to Buffalo one Christmas during a blizzard: this time there was just unrelenting torrential rain interspersed with periods of drizzle. I hate driving in heavy rain, y'all. I actually hate it worse than driving in snow. And this time my hate was justified when I hydroplaned coming off Rt. 2 and had a terrifying five seconds of skidding on the exit curve. Thankfully I can handle a skid pretty well, but it scared the shit out of me and woke up the kids in the back, so I pulled off the road at the nearest Dunks and bought everyone some nice soothing donuts before finishing the drive home without further incident. Stupid rain.

Anyway, the rest of the weekend was nice. Took the kids to the library and to Atkins Farms to pick out pumpkins on Saturday, and introduced them to the rapidly disappearing institution of The Local Video Store, of which there are only two left that I know of in the main 5-college area. Since one is relatively close by and we have a DVD player again I signed up for a membership and rented The Nightmare Before Christmas for the Saturday night movie, as Kidzilla claimed she'd never seen it. Naturally that had to get fixed. (How is that movie almost 20 years old? AGHH.) Sunday we carved the pumpkins and went up to Frontier for dinner, since their mom was late coming down. So yeah, super quiet.

This morning's major assignment was having my bell choir director over to talk church website. Nothing that'll net any income, unfortunately, but I do need to build up my portfolio again, so one more thing I've independantly developed will be a nice addition. I find it funny that I've accidentally a church membership via handbells, but I honestly don't really mind this particular association. Between that and [livejournal.com profile] bloodandsmoke's post about religion earlier I've been percolating another post about my own nebulous views on personal faith, religion and community, but that's not for this post.

I would like to note that Ash took to Judy like a house on fire. I have never seen him beg for attention so unabashedly and consistently - he even let her pet the belly, which we all know is a notorious cat trap. He also kept climbing into laps and making a big fluffly lovey nuisance of himself while we were working. Luckily Judy also has cats, so she took the compliment as intended. Lily, meantime, kept to the corner of the room and watched Ash's antics with the usual disapproving suspicion. *shakes head* Cats, y'all.

Monday, Monday, ba baaaa ba baba. Due to this morning's houseguest House Browne-Tatro is about as clean as it ever gets without something being majorly wrong in the brainmeat - aka, 90% of the floor is visible and the bed's made. This week looks like another seven day stint in the wonderful world of funemployment, so my major assignment is to step up my resume sending game, because no income = balls, though time to get stuff done or even just goof off/sleep is wonderful. At the same time I've definitely got a bad case of the beading bug, as while I'm waiting for the Beadery and [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi to get back to me on bulk orders, I placed a small order over at delibeads.com for enough materials to at least start on the Game Boy project. (also see being able to actually confirm color matching. What, it's a reason, not an excuse... right?) Still unsure as to which one to actually start with - this close to dropping a link to the various patterns and making an LJ poll. In the meantime, I've managed to find where I stored most of the bulk order of black delicas that [livejournal.com profile] innostrantsa sent me a while back, so at least one of the spice jars I bought last week is nearly filled and labeled. While I'm waiting, I'm sure guilt and procrastination will drag me back to finishing up the Witch. It's quite ridiculous - I'd finished the actual beading part of that over a year ago, I need to finish and do SOMETHING with her.I also managed to find Bowser rolled up in a drawer - he also needs something to be done with him. *sigh* I smell a small trip to JoAnn's or Michaels this week, depending on who is emailing me the better coupons. :P

I also need to make biscuits. And more stew, because last week's crockpot adventure was delicious and is unfortunately all gone. Might be a good project for Wednesday since I'll be out of the house for much of the day and won't have to smell it cooking. Which reminds me, ugh, on one hand yay health insurance via marriage, boo Actually Having To Go To The Doctor. I have a general physical tomorrow and a pelvic on Wednesday. Hooray? *shudder* On the other hand, Electric 6 concert on Wednesday as well, so that should make things better.
