Poking around Facebook a couple days ago, I found this status update from a man I grew up with:

"What are your New Year's Resolutions? I know some people think that having resolutions are worthless. I think otherwise. There is nothing wrong with having goals, even if you fall short of them."

True dat. So, for better or for worse, here are mine.

  • I'm currently back off the caffeine, but I'm also going to try to reduce and eventually eliminate the sugar and dairy in my diet. Which pretty much means if I have chocolate or my usual coffee with fixins, I'm screwed on three fronts, lol. Depending on how I do with this, I may also try to avoid wheat products as well later in the year - not completely gluten free, but you know, having rice instead of pasta if I can. And no more ODing on farina, even though I love the shit out of that shit.

  • Gym will happen. Gonna start slow and easy and try to go once a week next month (once i get my sneakers back from leaving them at my sister's, anyway), and gradually work up to three or four times a week by the end of the year. Also going to try to work in walks during my workday and money permitting, drag my ass to Haven once or twice a month.

  • Gonna try to work on creative things more. I've got a few bead projects lined up already and some photography ideas. Possibly write, though I never seem to muster up the will to sit down and confront the blinking cursor. By the way, if anyone wouldn't mind me pointing a camera at them for a while one day, I need to work on taking pictures of people again. Also need to start sketching again. I owe [livejournal.com profile] 11th_letter a drawing still, and I'd like to do the sequel to the picture I did last New Years.

  • Work on getting my finances in less sorry shape. Which means spending less on silly shit and saving for the big stuff I always want but never manage to scrape enough to have. I seriously managed to land myself in this much money trouble with a whole lot of small purchases, and most of them? well, I'm kind of wearing them around my waist and ass, unfortunately. That needs to stop.

  • Money permitting, get away from home once in a while. I got people that want to see me in DC, PA, upstate NY, TX, WA, CA, OH, not to mention across the pond. I may not get to all of those places next year, but I'd like to see three or four if I can. Especially since OH HAI I KAN DRIVE. Besides, there's nothing like leaving it to make a person appreciate coming back, eh?

  • Related to that, visit people a bit closer to home more. I get so caught up in being a recluse sometimes I forget I have people walking or even short drive distance away, and it don't cost anything but gas to go over and hang with folks. Not to mention some of them are even in bus riding distance, if gas is really a factor.

  • Pull out the violin at least once a month. Considering that's about all the practice time I used to muster up in school, I figure I can sound somewhat less like a waterboarded cat by this time next year if I do even only that.

  • Drag my ass back to therapy and start trying to make some sense of various issues I'm still battling.

  • GET NEW GLASSES. And do other health type things I've been neglecting, like go to the girlbits doc and *squickwibble* find a dentist.

  • Spend much less time staring into the pixels and more time doing all of the above. I seriously spend WAY too much time "social networking" and not enough time "actual networking" if you know what I mean.

  • Maybe MAYBE find a new job. Again, not sure if this is an "in addition to" or "instead of" the current job. Considering the finances, it may well be "in addition to." Even with the uptick in actual hours, I'm still going to be treading water on a full work week.

It's a lot, especially for little miss scatterbrained me. But I think if I stick to my guns and try to get some of this done every day, it's all pretty doable? Here's hoping.

Add Virginia to the list of people who would like to see you. I would love to host you here for a visit.

not a bad list! I need to do the less-frittering-of-money myself, although my weak point is shiny trinkets. If you make it out to CA, come visit me, ok?
