Oh man, I was so tired from three Christmases yesterday that I clean forgot to post. You read that right. I celebrated Christmas three times, in three wait no. FOUR different locations. Yikes!
They were all good for the most part. I will say my favorite was getting to sit with
cell23 and the kidlets on Christmas morning and bask in the chaos of two kids tearing (literally) through their loot. Considering Lil'Beast didn't take his new Pikachu hat off for most of yesterday after pulling it from its bag and his immediate and complete absorption into the DS he's been pretty much begging for since Kidzilla got hers, I'm pretty damn happy. Kidzilla was also pleased by her haul of books and games, and both kids were intrigued by the cubic asston of little presents from their aunt and uncle in Japan, including all the off the wall candy you could think of. (The kitchen candy assemblies I'm side-eyeing hard - seems like WAY too much work for a sugar fix, although it is, I suppose, kinda neat.)
And then we went to
cell23's parents for more kid presents,
cell23's grandparents' for Christmas dinner, and then to Anna's Dad's for the Last Christmas Party, since he's selling the house. All three events were quite busy and hectic and full of food and candy and I thought I'd dodged the Yankee Swap bullet this year but APPARENTLY NOT (it's okay I ended up with a very nice lamp out of it.) Rather pleased to note that while at a couple of points I was definitely in my feels between three Christmases, Dad passing, everyone expressing sympathy, the weirdness of not being with the rest of the Brownes, meeting Anna's cousin's pretty much perfect 7 month old daughter, and, well, just... everything, I did not at any point turn into a sobbing wreck.I guess the closest I got was mildly grumpy and antisocial.
After all that it was kind of monstrously awful having to get up and "go to work" especially since minding the kids while
cell23 was at work pretty much shot my productivity to hell. That said, even though I was ready to nail them to the wall at several points today I was really glad to have them around. Not much is better at curing what ails ya as an overexcited six year old jumping into your arms so he can watch the snow from the window, or taking a series of silly selfies with the nine year old.
I'm sure there's some end of the year omphaloskepsis coming soon, especially since
nounsandverbs wrote something that caught my attention about living in crisis long enough for it to become normal and I kinda wanted to riff on that a little. But for now, its time to curl up with my husband for another night of fighting with the cat for pillow supremacy.
I'll leave you with a terrifying picture of a little boy in a pikachu hat wearing a pikachu mask because OH MY GOD THE HORROR WHY.

ETA: Oh and there was Doctor Who and a regeneration or something, right? ;) While I'll miss Matt Smith a lot (you always remember your first Doctor, right?) I am looking VERY forward to Capaldi's run. VERY. (But can we just fucking get rid of Moffat already, eeeegh.)
