So Sunday I took advantage of the free weekend (seeing as we're taking the kids to MV next week, it seemed fair that we skip last weekend) and finally put the yarn I ordered months ago into my hair.

I was sort of afraid this color mix would be too bright but once in the brightness is awesome. I also like the blending from orange to burgundy to purple. Not quite the autumny fire yarn mix I've been hunting for since 2004 (jesus) but this will be an acceptable substitute. Which of course means Red Heart's going to discontinue it, lol. I'd better order it in bulk.
Saturday I went to the farmers market for the first time this season, specifically on a hunt for tomatoes. I wish I'd taken pictures of the four pounds of heirloom varieties I brought home because they were this beautiful mix of deep pinky reds and bright fuck-you orange, not to mention all kinds of weird ugly shapes. I also got basil, and a container of cherry tomatoes, because since I skipped gardening this summer, I miss being able to march out back and pop whatever was on the vine into my face. Next year I'm going to need a serious plan. Anyway, my ill gotten gains were brought home, where I spent an hour or so dicing up my booty (another reason why I love garden/farm tomatoes - much more solid flesh to water ratios) and making tomato basil cheddar soup, seing as I'd had a monster craving all week and there's no place nearby that makes it anymore. I ended up with enough to freeze for later, and my god, it was so good straight out of the pot:

Recipe, if anyone's interested. All I changed was doubling the garlic (because yes) and of course swapping out the canned for the diced fresh. So good.
This week has been the expected amount of distracted, considering we head out to the island on Sunday and my brain clearly wants to be there now instead of dealing with the pre-vacation to-do lists. It being hot and sticky doesn't help with this. Hopefully since I'm working from home today I can see about trying to get some of the stuff that needs doing done, but trying to take it easy on myself if I don't. I also have to get cracking on some major projects for September (one of Kidzilla's birthday presents and my Burlesque act, namely). One thing, one step at a time.
