"What have we here, laddie? Mysterious scribblings? A secret code? No! Poems, no less! Poems, everybody! The laddie reckons himself a poet!"

If any of you get where that quote is from I will automatically induct you into my personal pantheon of deities.

Anyway, a long time ago a wise old man named Jennings told me I needed to quit hiding my poems in a drawer. Not that I write poems anymore. When I do I indeed end up burying them deep in a drawer under layers of shame. An oubliette of the written word if you will. Occasionally one makes it out. Or, if I'm having a brave moment, it never gets there.

You know... there are worse habits to have than occasionally writing terrible poetry. Not going to go nuts with it or anything, but apparently April is poetry month or something so it seems like a good time to occasionally insert random words into forms and see what comes out the other side.

anyway, have a sonnet )

BTW - if y'all want to play along my strange haiku page isn't dead. I have to fix the syndication feed address for it on LJ ([livejournal.com profile] strange_haiku) but it still does exist and y'all should post silliness to it.

In real life news, despite the shaky start, today ended up being a good, if weirdly social day - ended up shuttling [livejournal.com profile] another_murray down to Northampton and back in the afternoon (ah, paying forward a decade of rides hither and yon, lol) and was graced with a surprise visit from [livejournal.com profile] verbena76 and [livejournal.com profile] aersi in the evening, and there was an hour or so of laying in the late afternoon sunshine with the roomie and shooting the shit in the "backyard" as well. Gorgeous weather helped all of that happen, I think. Tomorrow I not only get bonus unexpected kid time (somehow I'd missed the memo that [livejournal.com profile] cell23 had the kids this weekend as well as next) but apparently I'm going to see The Secret of Kells with [livejournal.com profile] jade_eyes13 and [livejournal.com profile] wrpigeek. And Sunday is Easter, which, according to [livejournal.com profile] cell23, "is full of candy and ham" (insert the battle cry of Ponyo here) so shaping up to be a good if busier than expected weekend. Yay?

Bedtime nau.

  • 8:30am - Went and mugged a large fictional rabbit for his mad loots. Will divvy up spoils among short stacks tomorrow morning.

  • 10:00am - Home in time to catch [livejournal.com profile] cell23 coming over to the Lantern playground with the kiddos. Hour or so of playing in the sun and taking a long walk around the neighborhood.

  • 11:15am - Back to Hadley with them. Stop and shop run needed making.

  • 12:15pm - Back to Sunderland. Sadly, Sunderland isn't Hadley. But maybe if it stopped using lady-scented body wash and started having a lot more cow shit around it could smell like it's Hadley.

  • 1:15pm - Drove to Groff Park in South Amherst. I had never been there, nor knew of its existence until now - it's a nice little park with mad playground and stream. Lots of running around was had.

  • 4:00pm - Back to Sunderland. Pretty much got out of [livejournal.com profile] cell23's car, walked through my apartment, got into mine, and drove roommate to Webs cause she wanted to go and I'd promised to take her earlier.

  • 5:00pm - Back to Sunderland. Stuff three cookies, some leftover coffee and several swigs of Kosher Coke into my face as a shot of sugar energy.

  • 5:20pm - Back to Amherst to meet [livejournal.com profile] jade_eyes13 and [livejournal.com profile] wrpigeek for dinner

  • 5:50pm - Squees hugs and minor parking change fail. We head to ABC for dinner. Pulled pork and catching up ensues. Noms and fun.

  • 7:30pm - Back to Hadley. And back to Stop and Shop to pick up the roommate's deli order from earlier and some last minute Easter sterfs.

  • 8:05pm - Back to Sunderland. Anything is possible when your town smells like Old Spice and not like Hadley.

  • 8:06pm - Am not on horse. Horses don't vaporize a good third of a tank of gas in one day, but then again you don't get the same milage out of a horse than you do out of a Hanzo-san.

And I still have to put together the bunny loot for tomorrow so it's not like the day is over yet. Whew. Though honestly? other than the slight crash I was having around 4:00, today has been horrendously busy and yet amazing, and while I'm dog tired right now? I'm also really happy, psyched about tomorrow, and all in all rather pleased with how the day went. Really my one complaint is after a whole day spent outside my eyeballs itch like hell - looks like I'm going to have to dig up that coupon and start my Alavert regimen early. Damn things blooming and being fertile STOP AIR-SEXING ALL OVER EVERYTHING YOU FUCKING PLANTS KTHX. YOU WOULDN'T LIKE IT IF I GOT AIRBORNE PEOPLE SPOOGE ALL OVER YOU HOW DO YOU THINK I LIKE IT SHEESH.

Right, off to bury my hands in chocolate and fake grass and fret about what the hell I'm wearing to brunch tomorrow.
