Writer's Block: Lessons Learned

I love the local farmers market scene around here. (There is definitely a locavore "scene." It's a little hipstery and a little too full of people who say "gluten-free" a little too often, but the food is good so I put up with it.) It's gotten to the point where I'm enough of a regular at the Amherst one that some of the vendors know my face and ask how my veggies are doing.

The best thing I ever brought home from one is definitely the Kiss of Cassis black currant cordial from Bug Hill Farm. (you can order some online. I highly recommend you do.) Mix it with lemonade or honey tea and OMG. Even better if you swap out the lemon juice for some Mikes hard lemonade or lemon schnapps and you have something delicious and yummy.

Day Seven: Four turn-offs.

1. No interest in books. The kind with no pictures.



2. Open-mouthed chewing or other forms of excessively noisy eating.



3. Overly wet kissing. Super Extra NOPE if you have kind of a sticky consistency to your saliva. I should not end the kiss feeling like either I just snogged a St. Bernard or a bottle of watered down glue. Or Jabba the Hutt.



4. Learned, acquired or practiced helplessness. At this point in my life, I'm not interested in babysitting my dates - if you don't have at least 3/4ths of the following going for you - one source of income that's not parental, shower once in a while (mandatory), have a driver's license, and have the ability to not go to pieces and expect me to fix things in a crisis (also manditory).

I'd heard in passing that Nora Ephron had died yesterday. It wasn't something that made a huge blip on my radar - I enjoyed the movies she'd done that I'd seen, but that was about it.

Someone posted this quote to Goodreads to mark her passing this morning. Needless to day I found it rather apropos.

I married him against all evidence. I married him believing that marriage doesn't work, that love dies, that passion fades, and in so doing I became the kind of romantic only a cynic is truly capable of being.

Yeah, that works.

While wishing Amanda what I thought was a belated happy birthday (it turned out to be a day early) I happened to look down at the actual date and go "huh." While it had flitted through my brain in passing a few times this month, I managed to clean forget yesterday that the date had any personal significance once upon a time. I remember while in the thick of things breaking down that I'd welcome a time where it just became another day. I guess that time is now, but I'm feeling reasonably mixed about it. Glad that an otherwise arbitrary point on a calendar no longer causes me any sort of pain or regret or sting or whatever. Also a little sad that it no longer does, if that makes any sense. That chapter of my life is very definitely closed, and while I'm by no means unhappy about that... I guess the finality of that is causing interesting fee-fees.

I'm not going to be bitchy and be all "So long old anniversary, now you're just another day" like some folk I could name, but... I don't know. Felt I should briefly mark its passing while i had a minute.

This is gonna be one of those heavy post days.

I forgot to mention that the trailer for Wreck-It Ralph got attached before Brave.

NEGL the early promotional material had me side-eyeing the whole thing like who. This trailer actually looks... charming. Though I may just be a sucker for apropos usage of the Talking Heads. But yeah... it looks suspiciously like they got this one right. I may actually check this one out.

Kitty Progress report

Aicch definitely one of those lots of posts days.

So three days later, Ash is out of his confined area on supervised probation. (He kept escaping his room anyway.) So far there's been nose sniffing and a lot of "F*** OFF" "NO U" tail lashing from both of them but no major hissing or fighting. If anything, he's just exploring the house while she follows him around suspiciously shooting hate beams out of her eyes. But they were both able to occupy the same windowsill like grown-ups, so I'm rather pleased.

I think they're gonna be best friends in another week. And then we all die from cute.

Also this evening I was a 14 year old girl because oneforellis was all like WHO WANTS TO MAKE FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS on Twitter. Awww snap, friendship bracelets. Though while bending over mine, I had to commend 14 year old me on her patience. There are reasons adults don't make these things, man. They take forfuckingever.
