I promised I'd write up the weekend's adventures in New York! :)

[livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I set off after work on Friday and the first half of the drive was smooth sailing. We'd pulled off to stretch, pee and in his case find a little dinner, had just gotten back on the road and were passing through Bridgeport when River decided it would be fun to throw a tantrum. Well, okay, her "check engine" light came on. Balls. So we pulled off and stopped in a rather brightly lit McDonalds to check under her hood, but nothing obvious was wrong and all her fluids looked okay. Again, Balls. Thankfully an off-duty security guard pointed us down the road a ways to an Auto Zone, where we were told he had a bawky emissions sensor. Whew! So we got back on the road, got to NY and miraculously only had to wait around for about 20 minutes before snagging a space at the end of the block. Accursed alternate side parking.

Unlike our previous trips to the City [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I mostly stuck close to home, taking jaunts down to Flatbush Ave for Dad related errands. I think the furthest we ranged was up to Atlantic Ave so I could get a look at the new Barclay's Center (and it is MAGNIFICENT in its hideousness, let me tell you). But for the most part, we wandered through the neighborhood, me commenting constantly on what changed and what stayed the same.

I did, as promised, stop at Sybil's restaurant. As suspected, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 certainly found things he liked (ask him about the bread pudding and the curry goat) while there while I indulged myself with beef patties, tennis rolls and pound cake. By the end of our second visit (yes, we went twice this weekend) he declared he could live in the restaurant. I suppose it's a good thing that the man I'm marrying PRETTY FARKING IMMINENTLY likes Guyanese food, lol.

We also trekked up to the WayStation Bar to worship personally at the feet of their now-infamous TARDIS bathroom, which is admittedly pretty cool to see in person. We also had a couple of overpriced Who themed cocktails before reaching capacity on hipster tolerance and heading home. (May attempt to recreate "River's Red Setting" at some point, I rather enjoyed both it and its effect on me. Drink be STRONG.) Sunday included a wander around Prospect Park Lake and a little bit of adorable snuggling in one of the little shaded seats that dot the perimeter of the lake while watching overfed ducks fight over chips some kids were throwing to them. It looks like they've razed the old Wollman rink and are putting in a whole new complex for skating and birdwatching and Other Park Stuff; you can read more about it here.

In around the House news, Dad was as usual, very pleased to have visitors, and he and [livejournal.com profile] cell23 primarily spent the time trolling hell out of me. Dad insisted on asking me when I was getting the iPhone 5, clearly not really getting the whole about-to-be-jobless-at-the-end-of-this-week concept... trust me, I'd be all over that noise if I could afford one right now. Saturday night as a special surprise [livejournal.com profile] cell23 made the three of us dinner, which turned out quite with the tasty, though he's been repeatedly warned that now that he's done it once, much like me having to cook the old man at least two pounds of bacon every time I manage to visit the house (could be worse, he makes my sisters make him a turkey), Dad's gonna expect it now. He's mostly been laughing that bit of it off, but we'll see after the fourth weekend back or so.

And finally there was another member of the household rather overjoyed to see us - Moonbeam spent the entire weekend shadowing [livejournal.com profile] cell23 around the house. Watching them headbutt each other in greeting was so cute I couldn't stand it. Moonbeam's getting on up there - she's definitely getting old lady cat slow and cranky, but we managed to spoil her rotten with pettings and gooshyfood.

As for me my main mission to accomplish with the visit was to get the wedding paid for, which I was about 90% successful at - portioning out the check Dad cut me I came up short on a couple of things and then my sister messaged me about something else Dad told her it would cover (le sigh) so I'm gonna have to call him and go over numbers again. Mreh. Oh well. I had about 24 hours of serenity believing everything was a go. It'll get handled though.

Of course, no rest for the wicked. It's crunch time in terms of getting wedding stuff nailed down, and we've already had one family related snag regarding hotel reservations, I still have to work out a few details re ceremony, music, and order of operations, not to mention centerpieces. Atop that, it's my last week at the Store so I'm spending this week writing helpdocs on all the stuff I used to do here so the Smithies can take it over. On top of THAT i'm about due for the monthly ladyrages, so of course I'm fighting back having a full blown hissy in reaction to everything. Baaaawwww wedding, Baaaaw last week at a job I actually overall quite like. bawwww what the hell am I going to do work wise post wedding bawwww money bawwww stress bawwww. My emotional state is a bit all over the place right now. But it was made better by [livejournal.com profile] cell23 going to pick up our marriage license and showing it to me last night... it's slowly sinking in that it's real and happening. Really no matter what happens between now and two saturdays from now as long as that gets signed and we have a bitching party afterwards everything'll be fine. And it WILL be a bitching party. Yep.
