Baby's first car trouble

okay internets, HALP.

Hanzo-san won't start. Like after the first try he doesn't even make the cough cough I'M TRYING YOU BITCH noise. Pretty much I turn the key and I get a rapid ticking noise and that's it.

I'm guessing since everything ELSE in the car works the problem is something frozen somewhere, and not the battery. Considering my current insurance/registation issues, I'm trying to hold off on calling triple A until I have some idea what actually is going on. Any insight meanwhile is welcome.

Because I needed this today. *sigh*

ETA: Thank the gods for mechanics that happen to be your friends. captainlove is going to come up a little later to see what's going on. Crossing my fingers that it's something stupid and easily fixed.

The tickticktick is indicative of a bad starter, I think. If the lights/radio etc all work and the lights aren't dim or flickery your battery is *probably* okay. But try a jump first, just in case.

It could still be the battery. It doesn't take a lot to power all the other things, so it could still be dead enough to not start the car, but run all of them.
