1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Yeah I think the whole unassisted driving places thing counts as my Big Accomplishment.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Honestly my main goals for 2009 were a) don't end up in the hospital again b) get license c) get to end of year in more or less one emotional piece. I think I've managed all three.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
A few of my friends have fresh baked young'uns. The ex got immediately knocked up after ditching me. That's... I don't know. I wish I were done processing how to feel about that, but I don't think I will be for a while.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Close? no, but WTF dead famous people.
5. What countries did you visit?
Still haven't been off the rock.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Budgetary skills.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Several.
2/14 - FFF!
2/21 - Handparted. :( That day was awful.
3/18-21 Got my license, tattoo and moved to NY
5/4 - Breakup #3. FML.
5/20 - Having one of the shittiest days of my life instantly redeemed by a phone call from Houston.
8/14 - putting deposit down on new apartment with new roomie, immediately followed by some super FML news.
8/28 - 9/3 I move back to the Valley, spectacularly napalm some bridges.
10/6 - Hanzo-san is officially mine, registered and in the driveway.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
*points to car again* And honestly, considering all the crap that came packed into this year, surviving it.
9. What was your biggest failure?
...it kinda took fucking myself royally financially to do it. And I'm vaguely displeased about the extra forty pounds of padding I put on as well. Hurrah emotional eating.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not this year, thank the gods.
11. What were the best things you bought?
*points to car again*
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Um.
13. Whose behavior appalled you?
There are a pair of short ugly blondes that I would very gladly drop a house onto if I ever get the chance, though kicking them off a cliff would probably be more viscerally satisfying. I could probably drum up a fair amount of people to dance around the corpses singing "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" with me afterward.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Driving (I added up my car rental receipts this summer, and I think I kept Enterprise in business by myself this year. Fuckers need to send me a Christmas card at least.) and general costs of independent adulthood. And junk food. Ugh.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving back to the Valley.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
pah pah pah pokerface pah pah pokerface mo mo mo maaaaaaw
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? MUCH happier
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter, but honestly despite the bitching I'm not THAT put out by it. Mildly annoyed at best.
iii. richer or poorer? OMG POORER lol
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
creative stuff and music.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Spending, eating, staring into the pixels for hours on end
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Driving to Buffalo tomorrow.
There is no question 21.
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
If you count the tail end of December 2008, holy crap yes.
23. How many one-night stands?
LOL, I'm so not wired for those. I did somewhat unexpectedly add a few notches to the belt though.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Oh, Netflix, how you kept me sane this year. Finished Oz. Discovered Rome, The Tudors, and TrueBlood, caught up most of the way with South Park and while I didn't finish either Burn Notice or Carnivale, I do mean to return to those at some point. Unfortunately I really couldn't get into Deadwood. There's only so many times you can hear the word "cocksucker" used anachronistically and not have it get old.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Ohhhh yes. Which sucks, because it means I still care enough to hate them. I would like to get to true indifference at some point soon.
26. What was the best book you read?
I don't know about the best, but I did enjoy reading the Sano Ichiro mysteries this year.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Gaga. Girl Talk. E6. Muse. Lily Allen. Rush. Regina Spektor. Thru You. She Wants Revenge. The Ting Tings. It was a good year for new music.
28. What did you want and get?
*points to car again, then at
cell23*
29. What did you want and not get?
Emotional closure on a lot of things.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I didn't get to the movies much this year. I will say Inglourious Basterds was fantastic, as were the two animated movies I managed to catch as well (Ponyo and The Princess and the Frog). I also really liked Watchmen and Star Trek.
31. What did you do on your birthday?
On my birthday itself? not that much, though I did get 12 gorgeous roses and there was karaoke and chocolate cheesecake. Around/for my birthday? well... *points to car again* And we had the Muppet party a couple days later and that was pretty excellent. Vast improvement from how I spent my last birthday.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Less inertia/lazy, more money.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
...what? Fashion? you serious? Come on, my main source of clothes is out of my sisters' closets. Fashion concept. That like, implies I shop or something.
34. What kept you sane?
cell23, all y'all reading this, Netflix, the roomie,
verbena76/
aersi (seriously, you guys, you've rescued my sanity a LOT this year, thank you) and enough caffeine and sugar to kill a draft horse.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't do the whole swooning over celebs thing, but I am pleased to note that Queen Latifah still seems to be getting exponentially hotter every 12 seconds.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
This whole health care debacle really makes me want to develop an airborne pathogen that only activates in Republicans.
37. Who did you miss?
The Valley, when I was in New York.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Who did I meet that was new this year? well, I suppose actually meeting
ggirl in the flesh counts, though I've been reading her LJ forever so it don't feel like a "just met," you know? And a fair amount of Squillage folk I didn't know before and kinda want to get to know better -
deleriumdeva,
avalon616,
somanygoldfish and
veestah come immediately to mind. Some Squillage folk I already knew but now know better too -
lysscat,
verbena76,
aersi. Oooh ooh and
head58 and the random people that seem to have found my journal though him. Been a good year for new friends. And reconnecting with old friends I'd lost touch with as well, like
extrajoker.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
a) I'm a lot stronger than I give myself credit for.
b) every 60 seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you won't get back.
c) o'hana means family, and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten. Alas, some people only pay lip service to this idea.
d) Life isn't fair. But that's the way it is. And that's kind of okay.
e) Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, then it's not the end.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Just one?
--Edith Piaf
Yeah, that about sums it up.
Yeah I think the whole unassisted driving places thing counts as my Big Accomplishment.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Just one?
| No! Nothing at all No! I regret nothing Neither the good things Nor the bad; they're all the same to me! No! Nothing at all No! I regret nothing It's been paid for, swept away, forgotten I don't give a damn about the past! My memories I have set fire to My sorrows, my pleasures, I no longer need them Swept away, the love affairs with their tremblings Swept away for ever, I am starting from scratch No! Nothing at all No! I regret nothing Neither the good things Nor the bad - they're all the same to me! No! Nothing at all No! I regret nothing For my life, for my joys Today, they start with you. |
--Edith Piaf
Yeah, that about sums it up.
