anagramofbrat: (bee on the grape!)
Spending a good chunk of this afternoon setting up a new-to-me toy, as I traded the Nerdbox3000 for an Eee PC. This is a good thing, as the coolness of being able to carry around my character sheets on a Kindle was waning, and other than occasionally wishing I had a copy of the Brick of Amber on it (ngl, that book is HEAVY), I had no real use for it. My disdain for e-readers continues unabated. Also I needed a laptop of some sort in order to get work done in New York this week, and I rather like the prospect of being elsewhere in the house and still being productive. Or elsewhere entirely. I've seen way too much of my own bedroom in the past four months than I'm comfy with. So I'm excited about this. I'm not gonna be able to play WoW on it or nothing, but a) I'm not playing WoW right now anyway and b) Mehhhh. Perhaps being away from desk and EPEEN will mean I get something actually done.

Jury is still out on what to name the new toy. I'm sure something will come to me in the next few days.

Last night indeed did end up on more of a high note than the afternoon, as there were indeed well-fed boys being nerds in my living room for a while, and an impromptu party at [livejournal.com profile] avalon616's, where I was reintroduced to We Didn't Playtest This and introduced to Betrayal at House on the Hill, which seems to be a more complex, R-rated version of Clue. Which I'm okay with. I should bring Cranium to one of these gatherings one of these days - I don't think it's gotten played since the Quadtower days, and it's a damn fun game.

Finished Parable of the Sower again this morning and indeed liked it much better this time around. I suppose I ought to look for the sequel somewhere as I'd never read that, but I do have a Brick of Amber to finish, and I do rather need a break from reading in general, so moratorium on new books. grinninfoole also gave me a new graphic novel to read (as well as a game that I could also sic on the squirekids, come to think of it) that looks fun so I should read that at some point too.

It dawned on me that I'm going to be 33 this year. I'm not okay with that. I only have two years left before I have to go get my tits pressed and x-rayed every year. WTF is up with that shit? Ugh. Nothing really worse than feeling your own advancing age without feeling like you have the requisite accomplishments to go with it. :P Okay, I'm sure there's lots worse, but it isn't good for my state of mind.

IDK, other than that, I've been kind of at loose ends today. Other than a halfhearted bit of housecleaning and setting up the toy I haven't gotten much done. Later tonight unless something shiny distracts me I might just find someplace other than my desk to hunker down and see if I can actually get Real Live Work! done, call my folks, and maybe cuddle the Manbeast some. Still debating whether I'm actually up to attending Werewolf tomorrow as I'm still kinda under the weather and there are people coming over tomorrow night for Superbowl shenanigans, but we'll see, we'll see.

Food and more coffee now I think.

My doc doesn't have me starting mammograms 'til I'm over 40; do you have a family history, if it's not too nosy to ask?

Ah. I was going to ask the same question. I'll be 35 this year (NOOOO!!!) and I was suddenly panicking, wondering if that was something my GYN never told me about..I have had one before, just FYI they're not *that* bad. Uncomfortable, but dentist visits are much, much more horrific for me.

Ai, sorry about that :( I've been idly wondering how my 38DDD ladies will handle El Smusho when the time comes...

kshandra: A cross-stitch sampler in a gilt frame, plainly stating "FUCK CANCER" (Cleavage)
That was going to be my question. (I still need to schedule my baseline mammoslam, for that matter.)

33 is a nice age. And hey, sometime in February of next year (I think almost precisely a year from now, iirc), you'll hit the third of a century mark. [One down, two to go, right?]
