anagramofbrat: (no more caffeine for you)
1. Was 2013 a good year for you?
It was a Little Girl with a Little Curl sort of year - when it was good, it was very, very good, but when it was bad it was horrid.

2. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Can't think of too much off the top of my head, other than making a concentrated effort to take my finances by the horns. Middling successes there. Also planning and finishing a few big bead projects was a bonus. Oh and brewery tours are a fun thing even if you don't really like beer.

3. What was your favorite moment of the year?
I had quite a few, but the one that pops out is sitting on the beach on Martha's Vineyard and watching [livejournal.com profile] cell23 playing with the kids in the surf. I've never seen him so genuinely happy.

4. What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Pretty much anything involving Dad from mid-October onwards.

5. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
See #2. I've had varying successes staying on top of my money and made a concentrated crack at repairing my credit, but I've only had middling success. Still, things are somewhat less abysmal than they were. Nowhere near where they need to be though. Also I suppose my health is better than it was last year.

6. What are your plans for 2014?
Keep on making a stab at the whole money managing/credit fixing thing. Open an investment portfolio for real. Keep making bead things. Possibly find something that'll make me more money. Do the homegrown tomatoes and stuff again this year. Actually go to the damn dentist. Get back into a ballet class. Travel to at least one city and meet some People from the Internet finally after a decade on LJ and associated other social media. Work on my muscle tone.

7. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep! [livejournal.com profile] htl_1126

8. Did anyone close to you die?
Dad. Still processing that.

9. How many weddings did you go to?
None this year, though I did have a lovely first official anniversary with the husbeast.

10. What countries did you visit?
Countries. That's cute. I don't think I left New England or the Tri-state area this year at all.

11. What date in 2013 will remain etched in your memory?
The dates of the birth/death this year. They were kind of big deals when they happened.

12. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finishing the Tetris Dance back in May. Also pleased with the amount of progress I managed to make on its successor. See also respectable gardening efforts this year as well.

13. What was your biggest failure?
It's been the usual struggle with money, avoidance of serious issues when they come up, and I'm kind of beating myself up for how not really present I was in Dad's last couple months, although I know I was exactly as present as I had the capacity of being. Also those two jobs I applied for and failed to get. Oh and the fact that I've had dental since March and have not gotten around to dragging myself to a dentist yet.

14. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Well there was Mystery Science Rash 3000 that May or May Not be either Crohns related or sarcoidosis, no one's quite sure because the lab lost the biopsy.

15. What was the best thing you bought?
gifts that utterly delighted their recipients. I enjoy nailing that sort of thing. The kids' DS's were particularly satisfying. For myself... Purple coat, the Bookbook iPhone case I bought well before actually getting my phone, and bead stuff.

16. Whose behavior merited celebration?
He'll say he was an absolute failure at this but I disagree mightily about Husbeast's supportive capacities this month, not to mention handling being asked to serve as one of Dad's pallbearers literally 3 minutes beforehand with a jaw-dropping amount of grace, considering he was pretty broken up about it himself.

Also i really have to hand it to my sister for handling all the Dad stuff with her usual level of strength and long-suffering humor.

17. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
We are our own worst critics in the end. But there are a few people who shall remain nameless that have earned the SIDE-EYE OF JUDGEY DOOM.

18. Where did most of your money go?
Bills, debts, kids, and frivolous retail therapy shit. Also man, do I spend way too much on coffee and junk food. Somewhat less than last year now that I'm aware it's a problem, but still, ouch.

19. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Nothing hugely major? The kids' birthdays, and Christmas. This summer's trip to the Vineyard. Getting an iPhone. Finishing, planning and starting bead projects. Plus the rampant flight of fancy excitement triggered by either trying for a fancy new job or playing a big jackpot lottery.

20. What songs will always remind you of 2013?
The few Top40 songs than managed to get through my pop-culture firewall of not listening to the radio, for better ("Get Lucky," "Royals," "Can't Hold Us," "Radioactive," "Danzo Kudoro") or worse ("The Fox," "Blurred Lines," "We Can't Stop," "International Love")

21. Compared to this time last year are you:
  1. Fatter or thinner? A wee bit fatter, yay.
  2. Happier or sadder? A little sadder but it's been a rough end of the year.
  3. Richer or poorer? about the same, alas, but I feel a little better about it seeing as I have Plans and a better idea of how to manage.

22. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I mentioned the whole being down in NY more this fall. I don't think I really honestly have much to be guilty about there but it's gonna smart for a while.

23. What do you wish you'd done less of?
The usual spending on silly shit.

24. How did you spend Christmas?
This way.

25. Which LJ users did you meet for the first time?
None this year. Maybe I'll try to go to readercon next year and fix that.

26. Did you fall in love in 2013?
Nah, unless falling even more disgustingly in love with my husband counts.

27. What was your favorite month of 2013?
July was pretty delicious for a change. Actually this past summer was one of the few summers I have no complaints about. It didn't even get that hot.

28. How did you see in the New Year?
What is this question? I saw just fine. Could probably stand for an eye appointment and maybe a glasses adjustment though.

29. What was your favorite TV show?
This has been the year of too much really great or quite enjoyable TV, so I can't pick a favorite.

30. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No? Well, maybe one person but I can't muster up the amount of care it would take to qualify it as true hate.

31. What was/were the best books you read?
This was more of a craft year than a reading/writing year. I did enjoy both of NK Jemisin's Dreamblood books and the latest foray into Vorkosigan Saga-verse.

32. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Japanese Visual Kei. How I didn't get into this gothy shit ten years ago is boggling to me. Also dubstep to my surprise is growing on me like a bass heavy fungus.

33. What did you want and get?
A needed portable communications upgrade.

34. What did you want and not get?
More $$$ by one means or another.

35. What was your favorite film this year?
Pacific Rim! WHY DO I NOT HAVE THAT ON DVD???

36. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I turned 35 and the husband took me to the hot tubs and then out for pizza.

37. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
Actually upgrading the employment front, but hey, one has to be grateful to even have a job.

38. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Whatever's in my closet thats not three sizes too big.

39. What kept you sane?
Manbeast, kidlets, beading, farting about on the internet.

40. Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
Idris Elba will grab and hold my attention at any moment. Trying really hard not to fall down the Loki, God of Tumblr rabbit hole. Actually the entire male cast from the Avengers, especially when walking away. Charlie Hunnam. Oh and I want myself my own Michael Ealy-bot.

41. Which political issue stirred you the most?
ACA, #SolidarityIsForWhiteWomen, the Zimmerman trial, whatever's lit the latest fire under Black Twitter's ass.

42. Who did you miss?
These days? Dad. We didn't talk much, but it hurts knowing he's no longer at the other end of a phone call.

43. Did you treat somebody badly in 2013
At worst I can claim self-absorption and neglectful, but not outright badly.

44. Did somebody treat you badly in 2013?
No.

45. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year?
I can't think of one I can summarize into a pat bon mot. It was another year of growing and stretching, just like the years before it.

46. What would you like to have in 2014 that you didn't have in 2013?
Oh, lots of things. Lets start with new bras. More than one. And hopefully a new car.

47. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year...
As always, the entire song "My" Way applies.
