I've actually had this meme done in advance for a while, I was just copypasta-ing each days entry. Kinda tired of doing that, and kinda annoyed by having my journal hijacked by it for a whole month, so here's the whole thing, with links back to the days I already did and the new stuff behind LJ cuts. So yeah, maybe I can yammer about some other kind of inanity for a change.

Day 19. A song from your favorite album

It's a tie between Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral and Pink Floyd's The Wall, let me tell ya. Both of them pretty much did much to turn the hormone saturated lump of goo that was my brain into the repository of warped sarcastic bitterness honed to a fine edge it is today. But considering I already posted something by NIN already, Pink Floyd wins today.

(NSFW due to bewbs)

Also I seem to be in the minority of people who actually liked the movie Pink Floyd's The Wall. Mostly cause some of the reorchestrations of the music are brilliant. Like this one. Love it.

Day 18. A song that you wish you heard on the radio

I suppose the only argument for satellite radio are things like genre specific radio stations, things more specialized than the normal Top 40, Country, Urban/Hip-hop, Techno (or as a station manager once famously told my mother "the kind of music that makes you want to slit your wrists), etc. Seeing as I carry around a 32 GB iPod that to my credit is actually running out of space (I forget where I read that most iphones and iPods only use like half of their storage ever) I tend to barely listen to the radio as it is, and when I get a hankering for something new and different I tend to fire up Pandora.

Someday when I have disposable cash (ha) I do plan on splurging on the only car upgrade I feel is worth having, which is an iThing dockable radio. Mostly for a vanity reason (holy crap, you get awful sound through a tape adapter, especially one that's been going nonstop for eight months) but also because I tend to noodle through playlists while I'm driving, and killing the extra steps of actually picking up The Preciousssss, turning it on and poking the fast forward "button" would probably be a little safer, even if I've got the process down to the point where I can do it without looking. It'll also look a lot less like I'm texting while driving, and the less reasons I have to get pulled over, the better.

I digress though... Like I said, I don't tend to listen to the radio much, except in the car when I'm utterly sick of every song I possess... While 99.3 here comes pretty close, I guess I long for Z100 circa 1992-1996, when the radio was one of my lifeline to the outside world and my god, it was full of grunge alternative. I'd wake up to Pearl Jam and drift off to sleep after Dr. Judy and Jagger to Collective Soul, Soundgarden and Nirvana.

Though I'll tell you a story - there was a clear summer night once upon a time long ago now, where I was working at Smith over the summer, my usual crowd of friends weren't around. It was way later than I should have been awake, I was having a bad night of it - it was hot, I was fractious and anxious and overcaffeinated and lonely and could not sleep, and out of sheer boredom I started fiddling with my clock radio looking for anything to cover up the silence. Having exhausted my options in the FM frequencies, I switch to the AM and for the first and only time, loud and clear, I got a signal from a distant land and a familiar voice telling me to give his station 22 minutes and they'll give me the world. I went to sleep that night with the comfortingly fuzzy sound of New York news radio playing, and the next morning the signal was gone, never to be picked up again.

It's funny, I just went to their web site to pick up the link, and for poops and ha has clicked the button to stream the station... It doesn't sound right. It's too clear, if that makes sense - I realize some folk would probably squawk at the notion, but it seems a little wrong to me to stream an AM radio station over the internet at a much higher quality than most of its market hears it. Even the narrowband option isn't fuzzy enough, in my opinion. Probably the only time I'd ever call for something to be encoded at 11kHz/56kbps Mono.

Anyway, enough blather, I have a day to get on with.

Day 17. A song that you hear often on the radio

Hey, I listen to classic rock stations a lot shut up. Or were you expecting Gaga?

Been a long hot day... started with a picnic type thing at Hamilton Orchards with [livejournal.com profile] cell23's family for Father's Day. I never thought I'd laugh myself silly over a small dog chasing a turkey, but that shit happened THREE TIMES and it kept being hilarious. Turned out to be something of a short picnic owing to it being too hot and sunny, but it was still nice to see everyone. After that it was home for me to hang out and hide from the evil accursed blazing daystar until the evening, when I first ventured to the store to get coffee (because I really really don't function well without it in the morning) and out again to rescue Cara from the wilds of Amherst. Summer officially has my permission to start, as the second time I drove down 116 I was treated to the season's first fireflies twinkling in the trees on either side of the road and occasionally caught in the glow of my headlights. Highly distracting, by the way - I kept wanting to turn my head and watch the pretty as I went by, but couldn't owing to the actually driving and not crashing the car bit. Note to self, some evening soon, find a field close by, take a Ball jar, and be seven years old for a while.

Overthinky and cranky tonight. Really overthinky, hypersensitive and cranky since Thursday or so - things kept setting me off emotionally throughout the weekend that normally wouldn't even phase me. I guess with all the neurotic stress I've been dealing with lately my usual armor has worn down to cheesecloth in a few places, and as they are wont to do, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune tend to hit the raw exposed nerves directly under the weak spots. I know I've gotten real quiet (for me anyway) lately, and I think that's just going to keep happening for a while - the only reason I'm even posting right now honestly is keeping up with this 30 days song thing... otherwise it just feels like what have I got to say? what happened today? More of the same shit, the same noise, the same words, the same song... oh crap, now I have "My Name Is You" stuck in my head, lol. But yeah... posting crap to the greater Internet just feels like so much more tire spinning, and I've gotten to the point once again where I can't stand the sound of my own "voice." So I'm feeling the need to just shut up for a while until shit gets better, and spend some of the energy I'd normally spend recording the various misfirings of my synapses beating the internal badgers with a stick until they allow me to Get Shit Done.

Not going anywhere, mind, still reading, and commenting and whatever... Just... I guess, don't expect me to have all that much to say for a while?

Day 16. A song that you used to love but now hate

Jefferson Starship, "The Baby Tree"

Okay, I don't quite HATE this song, it's adorable.... but I can't listen to it anymore without choking up. Saying this was one of [livejournal.com profile] sundart's favorites should pretty much sum up the multitudinous layers of why not.

ANYWAY personal angst aside, yesterday was hot and lethargic and kinda bleh. Even nipping down to the Taste of Amherst was disappointing because other than getting some absolutely heavenly Mapleline Farms ice cream, not a single thing aroused my interest. It also seemed rather... sparsely attended, like there were barely any restaurants there. Meh. But the Stop & Shop in Hadley finally has a gas station. Woot, cheap gas!

So yeah, the day was kinda meh and stuff (though there was some very intense grown-up fun had!) and then [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I watched "The Pandorica Opens" and OMGWTFBBQ. Like seriously WHAT. THE. BLOOMING. FUCK. Well done, Moffat, I haven't watched anything with a running mantra of "ohshitohshitohshit" going since the last half of Serenity.

Also can I please be River Song when I grow up? I am so in love with that woman.

Anyway, happy father's day and such like to you dads on my F-list. Keep on doing what you do best.

Day 15. A song that describes you

Crazy Town, "Butterfly"

This, Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls," Bel Biv Devoe's "Poison," and Type-O negative's "Cinnamon Girl," depending on mood.

Last night: BBQ with the Sunderkids, to quote avalon616. Funtimes until my insides decided they weren't a fan of the OMGMEATMEATMEAT + peach punch boozemahol I put into it all at once, so I went home and conked out for 12 hours.

Other than that staying quiet and reciting mantras against commiting widespread homicide.

Day 14. A song that no one would expect you to love

Oh god, this one's tough! I'm reknowned for my fucked up taste in music! I don't think anything I could post here would surprise anyone.

I finally settled on Trace Adkins, "Chrome". Trace Adkins amuses the pants off me. Be glad I did not subject you to Honky Tonk Badonkadonks. And heh, this is the second song with this title that made the list.

Really I think people tend to blink when I say I have a soft spot for Pop With Twang (while I'd don't dislike it, the stuff they call country now isn't what's I'd call country). But yeah, I do, in that "oh it's you" ruffle its hair sort of way.

In other news, my brain isn't working any better, but hopefully since the uterine Daleks have apparently given the command to EXSANGUINATE finally, that will get improve. Lord do I hate hormone-exacerbated crazy.

Day 13. A song that is a guilty pleasure

K, you know what? it's been long enough. I think I can admit to liking the Backstreet Boys. Not cause they were cute (whatever) but I actually like the singles they put out, especially "I Want It That Way." and "Quit Playing Games." Musically they wrapped circles around n*sync.

Yeah yeah, shame shame.

Also:

Erasure, "Always"

I have always (hahahah) had a soft fabulous spot in my heart for Erasure, and I'm amused that one of my favorite songs is getting a second life thanks to [adult swim], though after watching this hot Orientalist mess of a video? I can safely say that the robot unicorns might have actually made it less gaytastic.

Bonus - This is another songs that the Lovebug sings along to because he knows the words. Almost-3-year-old singing is adorable.

[livejournal.com profile] avalon616's birthday dinner was fun! Glad I managed to scrape up the money to go. It's funny how Packards has become the place where defunct Northampton restaurant signs go to die, and it was so long since I'd been there that I'd forgotten Rule #1 of going to Packards (ALWAYS GET THE SPICY FRIES) but it was a fun time. Also I find it very entertaining having a car full of people as opposed to just me.

Also I am seriously amused at and love you all. Anytime I'm feeling rotten about myself, all I need to do is post a picture to the livejournals and you all instantly make me feel better. :)

Today is a day of battening down the hatches, working, resting, cleaning, thinking, getting shit done. Also watching through all of Samurai Jack and being once again floored by how amazing and epic it is and reminded of why it remains in my top five for cartoons made later than 1990 (in no particular order, the other four are Invader Zim, Foster's Home, Reboot, and Avatar: the Last Airbender). Also the usual doing battle with the anxiety demons. I will simply not let them win today. *decisive nod*

Last night: Who, kitten playing with my skirt, rum cake, manbeast snooglefuntiems. Only the incorporation of rum will get me to ignore nuts in my cake, apparently to the point of enjoying them. BOOZENUTS. heheheh.

Today: conquering Earth. Nah, just more plodding progress towards undoing money screwups and overcoming anxiety. Today's challenge will be finding something to watch as I do so, as I'm done catching up with things. Hmm.

Also [livejournal.com profile] avalon616's party tonight @ packards. I'll have to find some creative way of making cash appear for that but I think I can manage.

leftover whipping cream is excellent in coffee just so y'all know.

That's pretty much it for normal mundane news.
