This isn't a particularly good vid of it, and I prefer the album version where it's just him overdubbed six times to create acapella harmonies, but really it don't matter. It's funny, you wouldn't generally associate Jonathan Coulton with sad, he's usually firmly in the quirky/nerdy/hilarious/funny departments, but I remember the first time I heard this song, and this was years before the Amoeba meltdown even, and I didn't even get halfway through before I had to ask for it to be turned off because I was already crying and in danger of going to full blown hysterics. I still can't hear it without turning into a horrid blubbery mess in dire need of several fingers of whiskey, so appreciate the effort it took to find a vid on youtube that had a minimum of performance screw-ups (this one he fucks up hilariously badly in the middle) without completely losing it. [dalek]APPRECIATE.[/dalek] But yeah. This one. Every single time... and it just kinda gets worse with every listen somehow.
I might add that this is a fabulous time for this song to come up. It's been a rough 24 hours between doing some grown up scary shit, cable restoration fail, cranky and murderous all evening despite jokes about wedding Daleks at Ladies Night, horrible dreams all night, therapy this morning that just left me one big raw exposed nerve.... yeah. I'm pretty sure my plan for after work will involve vodka and plotting the grisly demise of all and sundry.
