Boy oh boy. I totally see why Drew came staggering home from this wrung out and voiceless last year. Pax is an experience.

I'm actually kinda doing the equivelent of finding a "quiet" corner and recharging. I spent much of this morning on the INCREDIBLY FUCKING LARGE exhibition floor and attended one panel and I'm taking a minute to regroup a little. But I'm having fun. Just the Cosplay and Utilikilt watching alone (cute girls and men in skirts? yes please) has been awesome. Really just people watching in general - it's kinda fun watching nerds nerding nerdlike in a big old safe space to do that. Also I have a whole lot of pictures already and the day ain't nowhere near like as done.

I'll probably post something more comprehensive as well as one of those cute Picasa slideshows of pictures later. Right now, psyching myself up for another foray onto the floor. Think I may actually get in that line to play some 3DS this time round.

This is gonna be one of those entries where I lose friends on all sides of the spectrum. SO BE IT.

RANTING AHOY. Considering it's regarding the PA Dickwolves drama, triggery like whoa )

ETA: non friend commentary screened. I'm not interested in outside wankery on this.

ETA2: ehh never mind i just locked the post from further comments. I realize thats probably going to piss folk off moar and violates my usual policy of encouraging people to tell me when i'm wrong, but upon thinking about it, i realize i don't have my usual level of trollface and popcorn interest in seeing which of my friends are on what side (i'm pretty sure i know where y'all stand by now) and having you cockfight it out. Also, this is the blue moon occasion where i'm off the fence i usually ride like a prize stallion and am pretty solid in how i feel about it. For whatever its worth, it seems like a flounce/chickenshit/fuck you move even to me, lol. But whatever. Its not like if you really want to talk to me about this you don't know where and how to get a hold of me. I just dont want to do it here. Interpret that as you will, i suppose.

Ruthy is here for a bit and has brought me Dad's iPad to play with. Huzzah for net surfing without going blind. Do any of you have one of these? I'm looking into remote desktop apps because i'm just bored stupid (and broke) enough to really want to do work and any and all recommendations are welcome.

Dad continues to make progress. I've spent most of today nagging him to eat, take his supplements, and do the exercises the PT recommended. They are talking about moving him to the rehab wing as soon as tomorrow. I'm here for another night with him, which I find I don't really mind; I'm not 100% myself I'm finding and curling up in a corner of Dad's room with the net and a book is about my speed. But yeah I went for a little walk along central park a little while ago and just that much wore me out, though the air was nice.

I don't know. Other than being kinda tired and somewhat cranky in the intestines, I'm more or less okay. What with Dad being asleep a lot I've spent a bit of time thinking about various and sundry... Not bad, just gently poking the badgers and seeing how they respond.

I finally figured out a use for my Christmas Kindle* that does not make the baby Kal-El** cry:

Who doesn't need her sheet reprinted tonight? THIS TIEFLING PSION BITCH, that's right.

Already planning on tossing my WoD character sheets on here too, as well as some other game related PDFs I've got laying around that I don't feel like reading on my computer. Why hello there, NERDBOX3000***, how are you today?

* Insert usual rant about my irrational luddite hatred of e-readers. But since the gods have a sense of humor, I ended up with one for Christmas.

** [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I watched Superman: the Movie last night. It was a lot better than I expected, but that may have been because I was watching [livejournal.com profile] cell23 react to it more than the actual movie, which proved just as interesting.

So one of the things I would like to do in the first half of 2011 is clean up/upgrade and tweak EPEEN. I am not good with config and hardware; I admit to being lost nigh until twirling compass when it comes to doing more with the computer innards than occasionally adding a drive or a ram stick or replacing a CMOS battery. Anything other than that I haven't really bothered with, so I'm going to need a hand.

EPEEN Stats:
It's a Dell XPS 410, purchased in January 2007. From its spec sheet:
  • Processor, 6700, 2.66, 4M, Core Duo-conroe, Burn 2
  • Dual In-line Memory Module, 1G 667M, 128X64, 8, 240, 2RX8 (x4)
  • nVidia GeForce 7900 GS PCI-e 256Mb Video
  • Sound Blaster X-Fi card, SB0467 - F7710

I put a 1/2 T drive in last November; it came with a 250GB drive.

What I do and do not want to do:
I'm not interested in buying a new box right now. I get... attached to my computers and tend to use them until they either die or there's a game I really want to play and it Just Won't Run. Plus my next compy like as not will be a laptop.

I do want to upgrade to Win7. I realize this is going to give the LINUX fans on my f-list heart attacks, but I'm perfectly comfortable with Windows and have no desire to stick it to the proverbial man by using an OS that has made me want to defenestrate all in my path, which my encounters with Ubuntu and its ilk have invariably made me want to do.

Not really interested in anything huge, just generally tweak it so it'll run things like Cataclysm, LOTRO and whatever else the gang is playing with a minimum of fuss. It already mostly does this (i've been able to run LOTRO and WoW with all the sliders up with no problems), but it IS a four year old computer and it's slowing down as it approaches decrepitude, likely due to OS bloat. All my personal crap is on HD#2 so wiping and reinstalling shit on HD#1 is an option. Also I am well out of warranty so if taking a blowtorch and a pack of specially trained weasels to EPEEN's innards is what needs doing, so be it.

I also want to look into backup storage, as I've got a lot of music and pictures I'd be very upset if I lost for whatever reason.

This is a "Not Right Now" project, but definitely something I want to do before June, so I'm putting it out there as a "hey, something to think about, y'all, any advice, volunteers?" sort of call.

In other news and "things to think about for the coming year" sort of things, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I were invited to join [livejournal.com profile] renegadethumper and [livejournal.com profile] deliriumdeva for dinner last night, which was delicious. It got me thinking about the social schedule among the squirekids and excuses to throw parties/events, especially since I do have that set of good dinnerware Dad gave me for Christmas in 2009 and I have yet to use. Course I can't exactly throw a dinner party until [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I manage to get some actual chairs, but it is something to consider. Definitely need to work on not hiding under my rock so much in 2011 - being cooped up in the house all fall and winter has definitely warped my fragile little mind more than I'd like to admit.

So yeah, computer stuff, and chairs. Pretty much the sum total of my 2011 musings for the day.

Guys, I think I've found my calling in life, or something, because I apparently throw bitchin parties. 'Course with the crowd of people that showed up to our house to properly usher [livejournal.com profile] cell23's fourth decade in last night, it's quite hard to have a bad party. Hell even the people that couldn't come but sent well-wishes via twitter (you were there in spirit, Mr. Berube!) helped, so yeah. There were also Muppets, Batman, Castlevania, and Mario Kart assisting. :) Special guest stars: cell23's now infamous Gay Bar Dance while he beat the shit out of his princess pinata ([livejournal.com profile] aersi helped). The terrifying pin the tail on the donkey game that [livejournal.com profile] oneforellis brought that looked like a donkey staring worriedly at his ass as red liquid appeared to pour out of it (it was supposed to be a target painted on, but it looked way too much like severe intestinal damage). THE MOTHERFUCKING INDIANA JONES CAKE WITH WORKING BALL. That's right you heard me. That cake was BOSS.

But yeah, you know how you know it was a good party? 2 reasons: 1) I just stumbled downstairs in search of breakfast (by the way, [livejournal.com profile] aersi? you're a motherfucking genius, thank you for the bagels) saw the horror my living room and kitchen are after everything... and grinned my face off. 2) The part where towards the end of the evening, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 (who tends to detest having a big thing made of his birthday, so yes, I threw him a party cause I'm a bitch like that ;) ) was being glomphed by all the remaining ladies present, and while cackling maniacally, declared that he should turn 30 every year.

I clearly win at everything. Including hangovers. I had quite a bit of "kool-aid" (hawaiian punch, sierra mist, tangerine vodka and slushed ice make great punch, btw) and then [livejournal.com profile] another_murray brought over pomegranate liqueur and i was just done for afterward. but I only have a bit of a headache this morning and that may well be because I forgot to make/get coffee. Yeah, I know.

But yeah, thanks guys. And happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] cell23. I love you, and I think it's safe to say so does everyone who was in attendance. :)

This is the first morning in a VERY long time that I've felt completely positive, upbeat and just stupid content/happy. It's 9:43 and instead of being my usual KILL/DO ALL THE THINGS and crushed/overwhelmed by that, I'm actually kinda planning my day and thinking about what needs to be done on my to-do list and you know, not panicking about it for once.

Starting the morning with grown-up fun may have had something to do with this. *shifty eyes*

But yeah, this is weird. Good weird, but weird. Wellp, nothing for it but to ride the positivity train hard and put it away wet, because I know it's a fleeting thing, but man, is it welcome right now.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] avalon616's D&D game had its character gen session last night, and holy balls, I'm excited about the game. I think we're all going to work very well as a party, and I like where my own character concept is going. I'm still a little nervous about actually playing, since I'm pretty n00by at D&D and diving head first into a paragon level game, but I'm less nervous about making an ass of myself, especially since in response to [livejournal.com profile] avalon616's comment that everyone should show up at least wearing pants, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 showed up in one of my skirts (!!!) and [livejournal.com profile] renegadethumper forewent bottoms altogether other than boxers.

Both of them, btw, have distractingly nice calves.

So yeah, that was a fun thing that happened, so I'm looking forward to working on stuff for that this week. Also the first meetup session for [livejournal.com profile] verbena76's game is on Sunday so I'm all WOOOOOOOOOO about that too. Still working things out for [livejournal.com profile] extrajoker's game, that one may have to wait until I get Hanzo-san legally mobile again. Damn, at this rate I'm going to need a dice icon or something.

Anyway. I'm gonna check if the Jones is open yet and head down while I'm still all motivated and crap.

Yes yes, those are my boobs, stop staring at them and LOOKIT HOW AWESOME THIS SWEET SWEET MOTHERFUCKING T-SHIRT IS.

The evening started taking shape, I think, when I asked [livejournal.com profile] cell23 what it would take and what he would need to make up another batch of the potato leek soup he made last weekend. From there was me deciding that I wanted to make orange juice chicken again (I more or less use this recipe for that) and also wanting to make a foray into using the cake cycle of my bread machine to make pumpkin bread and also make regular bread since we were out, and from there this unholy monster of a shopping list was born because we were pretty much out of everything and its mama anyway, so [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I had ourselves a major grocery expedition this evening.

We came home, put shit away and COOKED. Both of us. I made the chicken and also started bread in the machine, he made not only the soup for later on but mashed potatoes and bacon leftover leeky goodness. There was only a little bit of having to get around each other and get creative with counter space involved.

At some point during all of this (probably the point where I realized I had overestimated portions again) I thought of inviting [livejournal.com profile] renegadethumper over for dinner. And thus began a beautiful monster of an evening full of tasty (all the food was delicious) and ripe with all things nerdtastic, as first there was Smallville to be watched (Entertaining for me at least by virtue of James Marsters, but otherwise, meh, superheroes), then SNES to be turned on and subsequently sworn at for a couple of hours while [livejournal.com profile] renegadethumper, [livejournal.com profile] cell23 and I attempted to get through Super Mario World (ha ha ha we didn't make it through Donut Plains). Add the presence of a tired and very punchy [livejournal.com profile] deliriumdeva after she got home from work, and a lovely reasonably low key evening was had by all.

I will add that man, the rose colored nostalgia glasses apply hardcore to old video games. You know what, fuck these kids - these older games are HARD. Much harder than I remember them being. Also my controllers are finally showing their age, or I didn't realize that they seriously were that stiff and hard to control, but yeah. not helpful when you have to make a series of timed jumps across moving pipes.

Still need to sit down and play Castlevania IV at some point. Mostly to see if the first six levels of it are as firmly entrenched in my muscle memory as I believe them to be. Y'all don't understand, I've played through and beaten that game so many times, it's like the video equivelant of a bedtime story you had read to you every night as a kid.

But yeah, there were people in our house being all fed and entertained and stuff, and it was good. :)

And now fall down go boom time. More or less.

Note to self - never type "Mario Spanking Peach" directly into google. Lets just say I inadvertently found a Peach/Yoshi fanporn that is begging to be reposted to [livejournal.com profile] weepingcock. Rule 34, destroying childhoods one bottle of brain bleach at a time.

Anyway. I felt the announcement that the SNES that I tried to give away a couple months back ([livejournal.com profile] cell23 convinced me to keep it) is hooked up and still working warranted an appropriate icon, and I've always loved the hell out of this animation so there you go. (I'll probably also use it for 8 bit beading projects when I get going on those again.) Now if I knew where the hell my Super Castlevania IV cartridge ended up, we'd be in business. Also looking forward to the trash talking and bloody fights that inevitably break out over bouts of Tetris and Kirby's Avalanche. I'm sensing drunken old school gaming night in the near future....
