My Fun is Not Your Fun, sneaker edition
Jan. 10th, 2012 01:13 pmI completely blame
devilishdestiny for reminding me this morning that a lot of popular shoe brands allow you to customize your shoes now on their web sites. My morning has pretty much been wasted playing with make-your-own Chucks and Timberlands while silently thanking The Great To-Whom-It-May-Concern that Reebok didn't offer the same service for high top Freestyles, seeing as I'd actually probably buy those. Except Reebok TOTALLY DOES. Damn it.
So as a personal deterrent for customizing something I'd actually buy* I've been having an unholy amount of fun designing utterly hideous sneakers. I'm actually rather proud of these two:
Taste the Rainbow:

As @justdowd pointed out on Twitter, Punky Brewster might have been seen wearing these once upon a time. Hell, my 7th Grade to College Freshman self would totally love the shit out of these, not going to lie.
A tribute to yvettesbridalformal.com:

Well I mean, when's the last time you can think of that a web site (and a horrific one at that) inspired some seriously ugly footwear? I wonder if buying and wearing these would qualify me for some kind of performance art grant?
(The really scary thing? The shoe is astronomically less ugly than the web site that inspired it.)
Yeah, I have problems. Deal with it.
I do need to at some point, seeing as my current freestyles have no tread left... but will probably be sticking to my usual basic black, tempting as the purple accented options are.

Guys, I think I've found my calling in life, or something, because I apparently throw bitchin parties. 'Course with the crowd of people that showed up to our house to properly usher
cell23's fourth decade in last night, it's quite hard to have a bad party. Hell even the people that couldn't come but sent well-wishes via twitter (you were there in spirit, Mr. Berube!) helped, so yeah. There were also Muppets, Batman, Castlevania, and Mario Kart assisting. :) Special guest stars: cell23's now infamous Gay Bar Dance while he beat the shit out of his princess pinata (
aersi helped). The terrifying pin the tail on the donkey game that
oneforellis brought that looked like a donkey staring worriedly at his ass as red liquid appeared to pour out of it (it was supposed to be a target painted on, but it looked way too much like severe intestinal damage). THE MOTHERFUCKING INDIANA JONES CAKE WITH WORKING BALL. That's right you heard me. That cake was BOSS.
But yeah, you know how you know it was a good party? 2 reasons: 1) I just stumbled downstairs in search of breakfast (by the way,
aersi? you're a motherfucking genius, thank you for the bagels) saw the horror my living room and kitchen are after everything... and grinned my face off. 2) The part where towards the end of the evening,
cell23 (who tends to detest having a big thing made of his birthday, so yes, I threw him a party cause I'm a bitch like that ;) ) was being glomphed by all the remaining ladies present, and while cackling maniacally, declared that he should turn 30 every year.
I clearly win at everything. Including hangovers. I had quite a bit of "kool-aid" (hawaiian punch, sierra mist, tangerine vodka and slushed ice make great punch, btw) and then
another_murray brought over pomegranate liqueur and i was just done for afterward. but I only have a bit of a headache this morning and that may well be because I forgot to make/get coffee. Yeah, I know.
But yeah, thanks guys. And happy birthday
cell23. I love you, and I think it's safe to say so does everyone who was in attendance. :)

Oh hey, friday
Jun. 11th, 2010 09:34 amStill on the upswing today. Staying home from work as a spoon conservation/just in case measure, but feeling in general better enough to not have to go back to bed every four hours. Which is good cause as always I have Shit What Needs Doing.
Had a intensely weird dream about a train that, if you went to bed on time, picked you up and whisked you off on a whirlwind tour of Dreamland and Nightmare. There's a story idea there, I think. I suppose I'd better write it before Neil Gaiman does.
My head's been full of stuff lately, not all of it nice. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster week in the headmeats what with having a super depressed moment on Sunday and Monday and being sick, and money stress and all. But at least it's interesting, and chewing over it is yeilding up some good realizations about myself that need further working on. Mainly my issues surrounding control and other people. Big stuff.
I keep forgetting that I actually like black coffee. It somehow tastes more... I don't know, honest, than if I hop it to the gills with some dairy product and sugar. Which is pretty much exactly the same reason why I stopped taking anything in my tea years ago.
There will be short people this weekend. Another good reason to stay home and make absolutely sure I'm better today.
I had another thought I wanted to put down here, but it's eluding me at the moment, so I guess it's music meme time.
Day 07. A song that reminds you of a certain event
It's not what you think. :) This song actually reminds me of the first time I heard it, the day I met
_kyri IRL in 2007 (jesus was that three years ago already?). I was in Cincinnati over Labor Day weekend for my grandmother's funeral and I stayed for an extra couple of days so I could meet her. (alas, I failed to meet up with bellarisa that weekend... next time) anyway, I had spent the day at Ohio Renaissance Fair (she's in the cast every year) pretending to be a Lady slumming it with the plebs for the day. (Also had my fortune told for shits and giggles and WTF in retrospect that shit totally came true even though it sounded super out there at the time. Jennings still around,
_kyri?) and we were driving back in her car with a couple of her friends and passing King's Island (eeeee, Kings Island!) and this song came on her iPod and I about pissed myself laughing. ("Soaking in the hoisin of your lies" still fucking flattens me with giggles)
Also see icon. :)
I'd like to note that I really wanted to post Toga Party Improv Catastrophe's "Don't Get Plague" instead regarding the same event, but I couldn't find them on YouTube anywhere. So you get Bill Bailey carving his lover's name into his forehead with a math compass instead. FEEL PRIVILEGED.

I rather enjoyed my talk like a pie rat day today. I didn't do it up as elaborately as last year outfit-wise and there was very little actually talking like a pirate, but there was fantastic hat, a waist cincher that the roommate gave me last week that's seen a lot of milage this week alone, a skirt and my threadless shirt that says "To err is human; to ARR is Pirate" - I figured that was acknowledgement enough. It was well worth it - got many a compliment on the shirt and the hat today, not to mention there was the random moment where I dropped the hat on Kidzilla's head while we were at the Common and it looked so damned adorable on her with her dress that pictures had to be taken. So, yarr.
It was a good day aside from that - there was farmers market and playing on the Common this morning (which involved meeting a lovely Welsh family with a daughter a little older than Kidzilla and a subsequent search for acorns), followed by me FINALLY getting to go INSIDE the Eric Carle Museum (thank you,
cell23) which was all kinds of win (Winnie the Pooh and Tomie De Paulo exhibits.... oh drool), and then lunch at Atkins and home for an afternoon of downtime and Miyazaki (Ponyo may have been cuter than a bargeful of kittens, but Kiki's Delivery Service is still my favorite). I'm really glad my initial nervousness about how the kids would take to me seems to be completely unfounded, and these days I find myself looking rather forward to the weekends they're around. Seems like it's mutual, as
cell23 IMed "the crew, they be bayin for ye" first thing this morning. The Dread Pirate Cap'n Andee is amused, pleased and touched. :)
I also at some point have to scare up a copy of You Can't Take A Balloon Into the Museum of Fine Arts. I introduced the kids to the two books in that series that I have (You Can't Take A Balloon Into The Metropolitan Museum/The National Gallery) but now I have a pretty valid excuse to get the Boston one.
Tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow.... that is, if I ever get to sleep, lol... Work, WoW, and OMG cleaning. Possibly laundry. Also taking it easy on the digestion, as I can feel the spidery beginnings of a crohns flare around the edges of my belly, which isn't good. Course I did have a lot of acidic things today... we'll see.
Off to try that there sleeping thing. Arrrr.

It's back to school night at Haven and I'm test running an outfit.

I am thoroughly annoyed by it taking me half an hour to remember how to tie a half windsor knot, but glad that I eventually figured it back out. I pity anyone who has to deal with this nonsense every morning, no matter how hot it makes you gentlemen look. Seriously.
I know Six requested below the chest shots... hopefully I can get Jai or something to take a better pic of me later.
...it sure as hell is dress-up week, huh?

Bullet time
Sep. 14th, 2009 09:35 am- Usually "Your Daily Twittascope" annoys the hell out of me. Today's for Libra seems fairly on point though:
You could easily go overboard today while attempting to remain objective in your interactions with others, but it might be wiser to just express how you feel. Holding on to neutrality sounds like a good idea at first, but hiding your perspective also suppresses your passion, making it harder to inspire others. Getting your true feelings out into the open now can prevent a more intense meltdown in a few days.
Looks like the whole live out loud versus not question is rearing its ugly head again. Well, it did kinda last night, actually. Apparently I'm still having trouble with the whole concept of if you choke something down one way, it's gonna come out another. - HAPPY BIRTHDAY
jaicat. Not that you read LJ much anymore, but figured the shot out needed to be made. :) And hopefully we can get together this week?
- With any luck, I may have my Hanzo today. It all depends on whether I like the Corolla
captainlove is having me test-drive tonight.
- I am determined to make this a good day. I rather need one at the moment.
