Never ever ever EVER get our hair wet without permission. Not even in the shower. Trust me, we have gotten the art of showering without dampening the hair down to a SCIENCE. So just because I'm standing in the shower covered in soap? THE HAIR BE DRY. UNTIL YOUR ASS DECIDED TO DROP COLD WATER ON MY HEAD THAT IS.

Consequences include dick punching, all of today's chores and other acts of violence.

Excuse me, I have to dig cell23's shovel out of his car so I can bury his dumb corpse.

Thank Goddess mine understands well enough to stay da fuck outta all my hair decisions! But he's happy I'm naptural and am not interested in presenting with straight hair at all and that the only chemical service I get is my hair dyed to hide all the grey. And he learned that valuable lesson from his first wife who's also Black.

Over the last few years I've developed a healthy respect and a striking fear of Ladies Of Color's hair. I never was one to intrude and touch (though I've looked and admired) but now I get a little crazy in the eye and stay so far away that I couldn't even touch it by accident (even in the throes of a sudden grand mal seizure).

Mine, honestly not that much, other than it taking forever to dry.

Other folks: getting the hair wet generally equals pain in the ass. Some people it spells ruining an elaborate and expensive hairdo - we try to keep it "salon-fresh" as long as possible cause chances are anywhere from $60-120 was spent on it. Water also tends to dry hair the hell out, especially if relaxed, so getting it wet means conditioning the hell out of it and then restyling it. Some folks who don't relax their hair will at least hot-iron it flat, which water will completely ruin (steam from showers will affect it as well, but somewhat less so). Dreds, well, you have to be careful to dry them thoroughly otherwise you have a chance of nasty shit growing in them.

So yeah, wetting the 'do is serious business.
